We had a great group of shooters turn out for the known distance clinic in Duluth. We started out with some classroom discussions before heading out to the range to setup our target lines. Once things were setup we began developing our ballistic data at each distance. Once our data was collected at each distance we shot that stage of the AQT for score. We ran into some issues with being able to see all our targets from the 400 yard line so we ended up shooting in squads. That took more time than expected so were were only able to complete one AQT on Saturday.

Our results on Saturday were very good, with five shooters qualifying. Kudos to Ben, Leanna, Phil, Chris, and Dave.

Since we didn't have enough time to shoot another AQT on Saturday we took the opportunity to see what we could do at the 500 yard mark. We didn't write down scores, but if I remember correctly most people did pretty well.

We began Sunday with some classroom discussion regarding target detection, wind and elevation effects, and range estimation. We then went out to the range to setup our targets and go through a range estimation exercise using several different targets with varying simulated distances. Most everyone did pretty good while a couple people with second focal plane optics forgot to dial their scopes to full magnification so their estimates were off. So it was a good learning experience for everyone, even if they didn't perfect answers.

After the range estimation exercise we shot the Morgan's Shingle. It was a pleasure to see seven shooters make the shot with a few others being very close. Congratulations to Ben, Mike, Phil, Chris, Robert, Dave, and Chris for making the shot.

We managed to get in three AQT's on Sunday before everyone was either out of ammunition or exhausted from the heat and walking.

Congratulations to Chris W for qualifying on AQT #3 and hitting Morgans shingle. Extra congratulations to Dave who qualified on two of the three AQT's he shot along with hitting Morgan's shingle, to Ben who qualified on all four of the AQT's and for hitting Morgan's shingle, and to Chris J for shooting distinguished scores on two of his AQT's and for hitting the Morgan's shingle.

Many thanks to Shannon for scheduling the event, helping with instruction, setting up the range, and performing RSO duties. Thanks to Mike for helping with registration and keeping track of scores. Thanks to Mike for helping with instruction and performing RSO duties. Thanks to Phil for helping with RSO duties, and thanks to all the shooters who helped with setting up, tearing down, and for being such a great group to work with. Despite the long drive, I fully enjoyed the weekend.

Last but not least, thank you to the Northwestern Gun Club for sharing their wonderful facilities and shooting range with us.

Here are some pictures of our event. If you click on them they should enlarge. Click on them again and they will shrink back down.

It was a great weekend of instructing and shooting.

Thank you Rex for running a fine event and Shannon for organizing it.

Thank you fellow shooters and instructors for spending your weekend with us.

I'm already thinking about next year and bringing a rifle that actually works.
Honoring the memory of Adonijah Taylor (1730-1810) my Grandfather seven generations back, Deerfield MA Militiaman and Patriot, who answered the alarm on April 19, 1775 and along with his six sons served in the War of the Revolution.
