Captain America

We had an amazing weekend at Fowler on October 18 and 19th.  We had some challenging weather throughout the weekend, including heavy wind and thunderstorms and much cooler temperatures on Sunday. But our students, Tom and Abram, rose to the challenge and overcame it. They brought the excitement to the party!
After going through the preliminaries on Saturday, we got down to business and started putting holes in paper. And what good groups they were! We had some great talks through the history section, and Tom and Abram were never lacking of some very deep and philosophical questions. We were so thankful to have them.
Following the history, we started into our first AQT on Saturday afternoon. We had hoped to get to the last hits  target, but mother nature had other plans and we had to break a little early Saturday afternoon :-(

Sunday morning turned into steady rain and much colder temperatures, but that didn't stop Tom and Abram from showing up with a hot cup of coffee and a fantastic learning attitude. They did fantastically well on the hits count target, and then we went into a whole bunch of review. It didn't take long for most of us to get pretty wet and cold soaked, but that did not matter. They got some pretty solid scores on the AQT. In fact, young Abram, who is nine years old, scored a 190 on the AQT. I have never personally seen a nine-year-old score that high.  We rounded out the afternoon talking about several of the individuals who made a big difference on April 19, 1775, as well as a fun chance to try out a real CMP M1 Garand and get it sighted in on a squares target. We finished with some more solid AQT's and of course, our infamous hits count target.

Going into these weekends, of course, we always hope for more people to come. But there is another benefit to a smaller turnout when we can get to know the people in our community a bit better. Tom and Abram were absolutely a pleasure to get to know throughout the weekend, and it was worth it 10 times over in my opinion. We had a great time and I am very much looking forward to the next one!

Here is a link to a video of Tom sighting in an M! Garand.  Pretty neat.  You can even hear the clip ping as it is ejected.
