Hi all,
I'll be doing my first Appleseed event (25m) at the McMinnville location in September, and want to practice ahead of time at my local range.

How far off the ground is the bottom of the AQT target sheet at this range, or other ranges in general?

There is no specified distance in our rules and in practice it depends on each individual range.

I would say high enough off the ground that you won't hit the ground with bullets if you miss, but not so high that you are having to strain in your positions to make the shot.

At most ranges I have been to, anywhere from 12-24 inches is not unusual.

I have not been to the McMinnville range and I am sure that the TN cadre will chime in if there is something range specific that is out of the ordinary.

If humanly possible, I set the target up so that the bottom row is line of sight with my optic or sights while in the prone position. Since this is the highest scoring part of the qualification, I want optimal geometry and ergonomics.

This puts the standing target as high as the target allows, the seated/kneeling targets roughly where they should be for shooting that position, and only a minor stretch for the transition to prone.

Just my personal opinion. The best way for you to prepare is the following.

Take your rifle of choice, with the ammo you will be using on the weekend of the event. If the ammo is new to you, 50-100 rounds should tell you if your going to have issues with failure to feed/eject or miss/hangfire. If you do go gets some new ammo.

While your there zero you rifle for 25 meters or yards. No need to go crazy, just on target will be fine.

Clean your rifle and make sure all screws are torqued down correctly. You would be surprised how many people show up one or both days of an event with loose hardware.

I thought I would go to the range before my first event and practice and nothing I did mattered more than just verifying my ammo and making sure everything was tight.

Unless there is an unforeseen circumstance, I will be the Shoot Boss at McMinnville TN. I use coroplast backers that are about 2' wide and 3' high zip tied to step in stakes (the kind used for electrified wire fencing). We believe in LIBERTY so you are free to pin the target wherever you wish on the backer  O0

That being said, most folks figure out early on that the lower you post it the better.
