Laramie, WY AAR – Apr 19-20,02025

We had our highest Patriots Day turnout ever, with 16 shooters! We had men, women and children all attend (about ½ the line was under the age of 18, and 4 of those were pre-teens!)

Weather the days leading up to the event were a concern, as we had some blizzards and road closures, but Saturday turned out to be a pleasant, mild-wind day, which is very unusual for our range.

We set up the range and did safety and other topics, and did the first strike.

Shooters shot their red coats, received more instructions and drills, with a sqare or two shot for practice prior to Strike Two.

More drills, green-coats, then lunch and Strike Three.

At 2 PM we lined up for the memorial volley, and shooters were presented with their William Heath Commemorative patch on the line.

After a few more drills, we shot an AQT.
T. one of our younger shooters scored a 217. He had previously shot a 209 at the last event and wanted to leave no doubt of his skillset. He was presented with the option of taking one of the regular green patches or one of the new 'limited edition' gold boarder Betsy Ross versions, and thanks to some encouragement by his peers, he choose wisely...
We retired for the day after shooting a much-improved Red-Coat.

Day two started windy, and under threat of rain/snow.
After the Safety brief, instruction refreshers, we made the line hot for Red coats followed by squares, green-coats and more instruction.
Shooters were performing well, so we shot a few AQTs.
We had a few shooters 'cross-shoot' their neighbors targets, so we figured since they wanted to do a team event, it was time to break out into two teams (they picked Team Lexington and Team Concord as their names) and shoot the new target: Captain Parker's Revenge.
I failed to get a picture of the targets, but after using their allotted time for strategizing and then firing the drill, one team decimated Col. Smith which helped them gain points for the win.
-This was a fund deviation from the usual course of fire that I hope makes it back into each Patriot's Day Shoot Box, and possibly could be something we can order year round as it makes for a good drill for marksmanship, but gets the students working together in a very creative and collaborative way!

We shot a few more AQTs, and then broke for a late lunch after picking up most of the range. KD skills were taught, and then we went back out and students were able to shoot a steel target at 100 yards using a rimfire rifle. Many students were able to get several hits, and one student went 10/10 in the sitting position.

I don't think every shooter has a forum name yet, but we had 3 new Riflemen (T.'s older brother, J. scored a 217, K. was our other new qual), and 4 instructor re-quals (House [233], B-line [226], HappyFeet [220], RegularGuy).

We had a great group of shooters, and some pretty darn good weather. All the students made significant improvements from Saturday to Sunday, and of course we had some new rifleman. All of their hard work paid off. It was really awesome to have an AS on the 250th anniversary of the "Shot heard around the World".
