What a great weekend for liberty in southern Indiana.  We had 7 patriots come to participate in our liberty-filled weekend.  I want to thank the Red Brush Rifle Range for its continued support of Project Appleseed.  They have a phenomenal facility they are willing to share with us.  We started our weekend with beautiful weather and great marksmanship.  After introductions and the first strike, we moved to our safety brief.  Once pistols were on the line, we did a quick familiarization with them and the shooters before shooting.  The first hits count target showed a couple of folks were leading the curve.  Everyone had room for improvement.  We buckled down for a series of instruction and proceeded into some shooting drills.  The skills improved.  The second and third strikes were mixed into the rest of the day to allow the shooters a break and share the real reason we were there.  We completed 3 PQTs on the first day before putting up the hits count target again.  In those 3 PQTs, Derek and Ethan proved they know very well what they are about by making Pistoleer™™.  Our final Hits Count target had everyone on the board.  Huzzah!

We came back on the second day with questionable weather.  We completed our safety brief and completed the Hits Count target and first refresher drill before lightening drive us off the range.  We are able to utilize the Member's Room until the weather cleared for session on pistol presentation using demo pistols.  As the thunder rolled overhead, Hemi286 shared the story of Sam and Sam with some show-and-tell.  Geek covered the Onion of self-defense. We concluded with a discussion on holster selection and different pistol formats.  With the storms passing for now, we got back on the range and shot another drill target to limber folks up.  We were able to get in another PQT before lunch and then next wave of storms.  After this second wave passed, things started looking like we hoped for the day.  We were able to shoot another 5 PQTs on our second day.  Derek felt the first day with an optic was too easy.  He came with iron sites the second day and scored Pistoleer™™ again with irons.  Our final Hits Count target again had everyone on the board.  It was a great way to finish on a high note with a the soggy weather and breeze.  Although not everyone got to the coveted 210, most of the crew was hitting in the 180s-190s.  They are very close to making the score.  I can only recommend dry-fire practice and coming to another event.

We did add a bit of a challenge to our second day.  We placed an 8" gong at 35 yds for the shooters to engage.  The idea that a pistol has a flatter trajectory than you think was reinforced with this challenge.  Most of the shooters were able to hit 3 out of 5 on the gong.  I had them aiming at the center, and it worked.  Great job shooters.  This was accomplished by folks using both centerfire and rimfire as well as optics and iron sights.

Something was in the air this weekend as 2 participants approached us late on the first day and asked about volunteering with the program.  I want to welcome Derek <Kanoa> to the cadre as an IIT, and Bryce <BackPain> as Applecore.  At the end of the second day, Brian and Elaine approached us about volunteering as well.  We have another IIT and Applecore respectively, with names yet to be determined on the forum.  I cannot thank these folks enough for their willingness to step up and help bail our sinking ship.

I also want to thank my crew that helped make this event happen.  Hemi286, TinaMarie, Darkfoot, and TheGunslingingGamer made this an event for all to remember.

"This country has been made by the Timothy Murphys, the men in the ranks. Conditions here called for qualities of heart and hand that Tim Murphy had in abundance. Our histories should tell us more about the men in the ranks, for it was to them, more than to the generals that we were indebted for our military victories." -  Franklin Delano Roosevelt, as New York Governor, 1929, at the dedication of the memorial to Murphy

Big thanks to all the amazing folks who volunteer to put this on. This is truly a remarkable program.  As a student, I've taken away lots of great lessons and a renewed appreciation for the personal stories associated with the early days of our country. Looking forward  to being part of it!
