The Upper Nisqually Sportsman Club hosted the return of a centerfire KD event in Western WA.   Prior to Covid, the UNSC had hosted a KD event, but the relationship with the range fell apart during those years.   The club was contacted this spring, and they approved the use of their range.   A big thank you needs to go out the UNSC for approving AS to return to their club.

This event was initially planned for just 10 shooters, but it quickly sold out.   The event was then planned as a relay event, and the number of registration was doubled.   The event again quickly sold out.   Unfortunately, a few shooters had to cancel their participation in the event and we ended up with 15 very enthusiastic shooters.

The UNSC has a target line pit at 550 yards, so we used one relay to score and reset the backers while the other relay was shooting.   The shooters need to move up and down the fairway to the various firing lines, but this was a very efficient way to run the event.

Each day was started with the Morgan's rifleman challenge.   A steel plate was hung at 250 yards and the shooters had their cold bore opportunity to hit the plate.   On Saturday, Curtis, Russ and Andrii joined the ranks of Morgan's rifleman.  On Sunday, Charles and Dan also hit the plate.  Congratulations on this accomplishment.

Saturday was spent on learning the shooters come ups at 100, 200 and 300 yards.   On Sunday morning, the shooters learned their 400 yard come ups and then got to shoot 3 more AQTs for score.   On the final KD, the shooters were challenged to shoot using BSZ to learn the hold overs for their equipment.   Overall, this was a great weekend for the shooters to acquire new knowledge for their shooting skill set.

We had quite a few new center fire KD rifleman at this event.   On Saturday, Andrii, Aaron and Charles shot their KD rifleman.  On Sunday, Matt and Ian shot their KD rifleman.   Ian then shot a 48/50 hits AQT to earn his Distinguished rifleman patch.   Eric also requalified as a KD rifleman on Sunday.  Congratulations to the new KD rifleman!

A few people struggled at this event, and it was primarily due to poor record keeping.   It is imperative to keep good notes of your sight system changes during the event.   You need to record both the change in MOA and clicks, at each distance, as well as the direction of the change.   As you change to the different distances, you need to be able to

As was mentioned during the event, this was the first event at UNSC for quite a few years.  There are some new board members that were unfamiliar with AS and had some reservations about approving the event.   I feel the event went very well, so please send a thank you note to the board for the use of the range.   I plan on requesting more date in 2024 to include both KD events and standard 25 meter events.

Overall, this was an outstanding event.  Once we got into the swing of things the pace picked up and we really got down to it.  It was nice to come back out as a participant and get to see if my skills were still up to snuff.

Hopefully we'll be able to keep the relationship up with the range for many more events to come!

Thanks to all involved in making this event happen.  I had a great time and learned some more lessons, can't wait tell the next one!

Does anyone have the contact information for the person that makes those shooting jackets?

You can add Dom to the list of KD riflemen - he shot it twice on Sunday.

Miss Mary makes them. I've been extremely happy with mine and find it adds about 10 points to my AQTs but is loose/comfortable enough to use as a sun blocker as well. Her email is notsostandardissue@gmail.com, here's a post on the forum about them as well: https://appleseedinfo.org/smf/index.php?topic=58594.0

Thanks all for a fantastic weekend! It was great seeing so many familiar faces back on the line and watching y'all apply what was learned at 25m so effectively at 400 yards.

Thanks Prescott for running another great KD event!  I can't wait to have more events on this range.

Congratulations to our new KD riflemen (and distinguished rifleman), and thank you to all the shooters who doubled as pit crew this weekend!  I had a great time hanging out in the pits with y'all sharing history and talking about marksmanship.
