Patriots Day weekend.  Sunny, 70's…absolutely perfect.
16 Patriots attended this weekend. They were amazing!!  Lots of returning students!!  Lots of new students!!  All ready to learn.
By the end of Saturday, everyone had made improvements and Craig (a returning student & Rifleman) posted the first Rifleman score, a very nice 228.
Sunday was a bit breezier, but still very nice temperature.  The volley was amazing as always.  I love hearing the ripping of shots fired after each group of names is read.  Gives me goosebumps….
It was a good day for Rifleman scores as well.  3 repeat students repeat Rifleman Scores, 1 repeat student, new Rifleman, and 1 new student, new Rifleman.
Jason (shooting a bolt action .22 like a pro!!)  215, 219, 212, 216
Sam (1st Appleseed!! Shooting iron sights)  221, 216, 217, 214
Craig (adding to his Sat score) 220, 215, 223
Jesse 213
Jeff (repeat student 1st Rifleman score!)  214
Congrats to you all!!!
Also Congrats and welcome to Jason for stepping up and taking an orange hat!!  He emailed me a few days after the event!!  Welcome aboard!!
Thank you all very much for coming out and making this a wonderful weekend.
Hope to see you on the range again!!
Thank you to those who helped us clean up, it's much appreciated.
Big thank you to my instructors, you were great as usual!!

Thank you Laurie and team, was a great weekend as usual!

My Rifle ran flawlessly and didn't let me down all weekend.... so I went home and tore it apart and it's now wearing a new barrel!  See you at the next one when I can see how badly I messed it up!

Thank you Jason for joining the Appleseed team!

Craig.

New barrel? What did you select?

You should bring your new barrel to the Rimfire KD in a couple weeks....  O0

@Eaglescouter - I went with a Whistle Pig / Acculite which had great reviews and seems to like CCi SV and Minimags, which is like me, cheap!  It's a 20" Fluted barrel with the compensator in matt silver.  The rifle weight dropped by about 10 oz's.  It was on sale and had free shipping too.

@Laurie I'm considering it, but need to get out at least one more time with it before then and this weekend is busy with Graduations.

Cal Lefty

Hi Everyone,

I always have so much fun at Appleseed events, and based on the number of repeat attendees, other people feel the same. I loved my first event in June 2021 Father's Day weekend in 107 degree heat! I loved my second event in April 2022 when Chris and Darryl ran the event themselves due to staff illnesses. And it was super nice to see everyone again at this past April 2023 with so many familiar faces.

We are blessed with an amazing crew of instructors in Norcal (Laurie, Chris, Daryll, Joe, Vinnie, Linda). I'm privileged to follow in your footsteps!

When I'm at Appleseed, I'm usually so engrossed by the teaching, so absorbed by the stories, and so "in the zone" when shooting, that I forget to take photos! Here are a few photos that were captured, if you want to bring back those awesome memories in more detail. Maybe next time I'll try to be more proactive with photos.

Thanks,
Jason (Cal_Lefty)
I went to UC Berkeley (aka "Cal"), and I'm left handed.

Thank you team! I learned a lot about everything and figured out the malfunction that I'd been having all weekend (bent/caked extractor, somehow missed it cleaning the bolt on Saturday)

Look forward to doing it again with better prep!

As an aside, I've discovered I'm currently cross-eye dominant, but my left eye is trash. Any tips for prepping for the next one?

Practice one position each week, same position every night for 10 minutes.
After a week practice a different position for 10 minutes per night.

Dry Practice once you have your position solid, and pay extra attention to sight alignment, sight picture and NPOA.
Put the ammo in the garage.
Then Put the ammo in the garage.
Now that there is no ammo in the room with you, make your rifle safe.  (yes chamber flag and all)
Now get in position and do dry practice with no ammo.
