Sacramento weather can be unpredictable in September....

Saturday was warm and breezy, though the wind picked up in the afternoon.

18 students came out to learn and they did learn lots.  We had plenty of returning students and plenty of new students.  This was a group of sponges, soaking up the knowledge we gave them.

A stop for lunch and some history, then it was back on the line for more shooting and instruction.  Everyone was really working hard to improve.

We got one AQT in before the end of the day.  The wind was really starting to pick up and targets had to be secured well.  One student had his AQT blown away while he was putting it up.  Not sure where it ended up!!  No Rifleman scores on Saturday.

Sunday was cloudy and windy.

We had 5 students unable to return for various reasons, and one who couldn't come on Saturday came on Sunday (returning student).   We did our review and worked with students in tuning up positions and such.

Dan posted the first Rifleman score of the day at 213 and followed it up with a 210.  Proving that the Rifleman patch on his bag was well earned.

Steve posted a very nice 211.

The wind was not cooperating with us, and we started getting some showers.   We packed up a little bit early as the wind was approaching Fred's wind rule of "Why are we out here?".

Thank you to everyone who came out and worked hard.

Thank you to those who were able to stay and help us tear down and clean up.  Many hands make the job easier.

Thank you to my instructors!  Without you, I couldn't do this.

There were a lot of reasons that the right decision for us was to bail out on Sunday.
Pinky is fine.
After a LOT of investigation on the OOBD, I am no longer certain that the chunk of debris that I found in the extractor recess was gravel.
When I got the bullet out of the barrel, there were 2 small chunks of lead missing from the side. That could have been what I dug out from the extractor.
That being said, Pinky and I discussed the CCI ammunition at home, and she mentioned that a couple of times, the green CCI RealTree "Clean" powder coated bullets failed to feed. Only the green bullets.
So, I went to town with a micrometer, and sure enough, where the light and dark brown powder mic'd between .2235 and .2245, one of the green bullets mic'd at .225.
The M&P 15/22's that we have are the match grade Performance Center models. Match trigger, Match barrel, and match chamber.
I cannot prove this beyond a reasonable doubt, but I believe that the combination of the thick powder coat, and lack of any kind of lubrication on the ammunition caused the problem, and probably should not be used in tight chambered semi's. I have now relegated that ammo to my C&R pump and bolt guns.

On Sunday the 25th, we went to a 50' match in Sebastopol using Norma TAC-22, I had one failure to eject, but beyond that the weapon ran like a top. Pinky's had no issues whatsoever.

The Sebastopol Rifle and Pistol Club's 50' Match Course of fire is:
10 minutes zero, unlimited rounds, two targets. (I definitely did not load enough magazines to get it done, and we forgot the range card cheat sheet, D'OH!!!).
Prone - 10 Minutes, 2 targets, 5 rounds per target, can load one mag or do 5/5 mag change. We opt for the mag change.
Sitting -  10 Minutes, 2 targets, 5 rounds per target, can load one mag or do 5/5 mag change. We opt for the mag change.
Standing Off Hand - 10 Minutes, no sling. One mag.
"Money Maker" - Standing off hand, one minute, one bullet, must hit bullseye to get $5 back.

Now, what was really cool was that we were able to use everything we were taught for Prone and Sitting, and the range master commented that Pinky had nearly perfect form standing off hand.
Pinky's groups drastically improved over last month. I think she scored 197 out of 300. Part of that is that we are not yet completely zeroed at 50'.

My prone and standing got a little worse, mostly because I was not zeroed either, but my sitting position was leaps and bounds above last month: from 64 points to 87.
Combined score was 242 out of 300.

So, credit where credit is due, even though we didn't even finish the Saturday course of fire, the Appleseed training drew immediate results in our abilities.
Thank you to all of the instructors, we are looking forward to next year.
