A dozen Boy Scouts gathered together at Hobbs Island Shooting Range (HISR) in South Huntsville for a weekend of marksmanship and history!

We met early Saturday morning and got started with some safety and the Hits Count target.  Next up, Mechanic shared the First Strike of the Match and we jumped into marksmanship instruction and dry practice drills.  Just before lunch, we shot our first square and the groups were looking excellent!

It was a gorgeous day, so there was no need to shelter at the clubhouse.  We enjoyed lunch and heard the Second Strike from Leadslinger.  After a well-deserved rest, we all got back to learning.  We were treated to AnthonyB teaching Talking Targets and Inches-Minutes-Clicks.  Soon after, we heard the Third Strike from UpACreek and finished up our marksmanship instruction for the day.

Sunday morning came all too soon and we had lots of liquid sunshine!  Sunday morning was a nice change for the instructors, as we got to assist the Scouts with their rifle merit badge qualifications.  All the young men qualifed and as a treat got to shoot some centerfire rifles:  an M1, M14, and some AR15 variants!  On breaks, we told more history!

My thanks to Don and Matt at HISR for sharing their beautiful range with us and allowing the Scouts to Camp!   Your support is greatly appreciated.

On behalf of my fellow instructors, thank you for the opportunity to serve you at HISR.  I hope that you continue to pursue excellence in your marksmanship.  Please know, the ultimate compliment you can extend to us is to come back to another Project Appleseed weekend and bring a friend!

Sounds like an awesome event!   Boy Scouts is one of the things that got me started in shooting. Great to see these young men carry on the tradition. O0

Awesome shoot.  The boys all did amazing.  I've been to a few Boy Scout Camps.  The Rifle Merit Badge is tough to get.  These boys made it look easy and seemed to have fun doing it, despite the rain.  That range is gorgeous, rain or shine.  Thanks to the dad and Maximum Ordinate that let me play too.

A Scout does a great job teaching a block of instruction.

It's finally 10:00 and we can bring out the bigger rifles!  I'm not sure who was waiting for this more.

A few Scout dads were nice enough to share their rifles and ammo with everyone.

Acting SPL Will is given an Appleseed coin for leading the group this weekend.  Nice socks (our shoes were a bit muddy and were left at the classroom door)
