SLCFSA hosted APPLESEED again, on July 2nd and 3rd.
We shot the red coat target w/o instruction, and then the learning began.
Important items like steady hold factors, the 6 steps to firing the shot, NPOA, and others were taught.
Additional exercises such as zeroing, NPOA, cadence, and carding the sights were completed.
We also went over 2 of the three strikes on the road to the beginning of the revolutionary war.
Unfortunately, the rain that threatened all morning Saturday became a reality, with thunder and lightning, and BUCKETS of rain.
We quickly safed and cased rifles, and students gathered their gear, for a return on Sunday.
Sunday arrived, and we did a review of all the things covered Saturday, as well as some new things like transitions, the 3rd strike of the match, as well as going over known distance shooting. The 4 questions asked on Saturday were answered by the students during our review time on Sunday, and I was more than pleasantly surprised that Leah, our junior attendee, already knew the answers, took diligent notes, and was generally knowledgeable about our history as a nation before she even arrived!
We shot our morning redcoat, and then one more sighter group. We then went into the AQT grind, and shot both AQT's in stages, as well as rapid-fire AQT's, after instructing how to perform them safely. We finished with a final red coat target, and then the reading of a letter from John Adams.
All attendees were thanked for participating, and after safing and casing rifles, we restored the range, and went home with new found knowledge of not only how to shoot a rifle with precision and effectiveness, but a greater respect of what our founding generation of colonists endured to secure our freedom.

Father/Daughter duo. Jared and Leah both had fun, learned, and plan to come back.
This picture right here, folks, is the impetus for the program, and why the cadre does what it does.
Our freedoms, and a healthy respect for what we were given, MUST be inculcated in the generations that follow us!
