The weather that is always "cooler by the Lake" showed up in West Central Ohio on Saturday.

The Middletown Sportsmen's Club Range woke up to 39 degrees, rain, snow showers and ugly clouds.

The Civil Air Patrol (CAP) cadets showed that they were prepared.  Every one of them showed up with a learning, positive attitude. This was shown at the range by their attention to details, in Safe rifle & a very SAFE event.

Our CAP host, Lt. Farina and the CAP team were prepared to make the event successful, from the range covers to the efficient support team to assist the Appleseed instructors with anything that was needed.

The day started with the SHF in prone to shoot squares.  It was quickly recognized that the students were paying attention to what was being taught.  The hits count target were put in place, the students quickly learned how there, trigger squeeze, NPOA would show at the target.  Improvement thru the day ended up with two Cadets with a perfect 55-point hits target, 5 Cadets over 40-point and 5 additional cadets hitting the bucket.

Thanks to the Middletown Sportsmen Club for their support and great facility.

Thanks to the CAP support team, and a BIG Thanks to the AS support team: Shep, Doc Willi, Rattlehead, Shadow870 and Mac.

Looks like a great event. Thanks to all the instructors that helped out. Yes Lake Erie can be a witch in the spring. Kudos to all who braved the elements.  Corvette

It was a truly great event! Thanks go to Meadow and Mac for all the hard work in making the arrangements, it was no small task to get everything in place to make this happen.

The Middletown Sportsman's club was an excellent host for the event and their hospitality was really appreciated.  I believe it was the first of many more Appleseed events on their wonderful facilities.

The Cadets were awesome to work with! It was great to hear their crisp response of  "Yes Sir!" after instruction was given. All were polite, intelligent and had amazing attitudes; the future of our country would look bright indeed if all America's teenagers were like them!

Thank you Meadow for all your support to make this event happen.  Meadow and I had been coordinating this event since November and have shared many texts, emails and phone calls over the past 5 months. Meadow even made a road trip to see the venue in advance of this event.  So thank you Meadow for your dedication and all your support!

The process on my end included securing a new Appleseed host venue (Middletown Sportsman's Club) for the Cinci area.  Additionally, as a volunteer with the Civil Air Patrol (CAP), I also had an involved paperwork process to get this "high adventure CAP event" approved by the Ohio Wing Commander.

I can tell you that these cadets were so thrilled with their experience.  From a preliminary survey I have already 10 cadets affirming that they would want to participate in a 2-day Appleseed event.

Thank you again for investing in our youth!

I have to say this was one of the most fun & productive Appleseed's I have ever worked. It was made that way not only by the great people (Project Appleseed Instructors, The Civil Air Patrol and the Middletown Sportsman Club) who came together to make it happen, but also by the great young cadets who attended. To be honest, I generally find large groups of young people obnoxious, unfocused, lacking discipline and hard to work with. That was not the case this day, it was quite the opposite in fact. Every cadet was on point the entire time with every piece of instruction given. They were disciplined and attentive with great attitudes and very respectful. You could tell they were thirsty for all the knowledge we had to offer. This applied to historical information, technical information and in skill sets. In addition and most important, their attitude towards the safety it was impeccable. Other than one missed safety and one ALMOST magazine left on a matt, I saw nothing of mention the entire rest of the time. The mud & cold did not slow them down for even a second.

When it came to shooting, every one of them showed improvement through out the day. With some of the shooting skills being very impressive! I have no doubt Daniel Morgan himself would have taken a few of them into his ranks had he been there. I would love to see them return for a full Appleseed weekend because I think they would earn the patch in short order. I would even go as far as to say that I think some of them have the potential to be instructors with PAS and I would love to see those who earn a patch take and orange hat when they are of age.

I would like to thank Meadow & Mac in particular due to the effort they put into making this happen. It was WAY above and beyond. The drive times, coordinating & communicating between multiple groups, paperwork, logistics, printing out info for the cadets, the food, the set up, etc. etc. It was all fantastic. On a personal note, it's been a LONG time since any one called me sir, lol. It took a second to get used to it.

Anyway I have rambled enough. I took pics from the days events and will upload them here once I get them sorted and edited. looking forward to working with everyone again! Take care.

Sounds like an awesome time had by all! Wish I could've made it. Great job Meadow and Mac for setting this up!

Doc Willi

This was a great group of students with a good learning attitude. I want to thank Meadow and Mac for working hard to make this happen. It was nice being called sir all day. Also, thank you to Middletown Sportsman Club for not only having the event, but also working with Meadow and Mac to modify the range for our needs. I hope to see these cadets on the line again.

Loved the projectile at the 0:30 mark.

Maybe a little too large for an Appleseed >:D

Isn't that used for Known Distance ?

Shadow870

No, its a prop used to show the different parts of a loaded round. Primer, case, powder & projectile.

It looked like a great event. Hats off to Mac and Meadow for making the event happen. They are our future.

As a former CAP cadet and recent Appleseed attendee, it's great to see crossover between these organizations.  I can imagine the additional logistics and paperwork involved to pull this off, and want to give kudos to all that helped make it successful.

Looks like everyone had a great time and learned a ton.

A smile is worth a thousands words...the cadets thoroughly enjoyed their marksmanship experience...
