The first Official Somewhat Partial Possible Winterseed Appleseed event is in the books at the fabulous Clinton County Farmers and Sportsmen Association range in Wilmington, OH. Good Ole Bay 7 proved to be as cozy a place as one could find on a cold, blustery winter day in February.

Seven patriots bundled up and turned out for what ended up being a great weekend of shooting. Mixed in with all the instruction, determination and grit was some fine storytelling around the campfire just like our ancestors did for generations. Something about the smell of woodsmoke in the air makes the story of our nation's founding feel even more real.

They came from miles around to partake in the experience but it was doubtful that Mother Nature would cooperate with any real wintery conditions but by the end of Saturday the freezing temps and steady wind made the challenge worthy of one attempt at a Winterseed patch. We had five shooters toe the line and lay it down. When the smoke cleared Scotty re-qualified and was awarded the coveted blue patch. Makes me shiver just thinking about it!

Sunday dawned cold and cloudless and after a thawing review of safety and points of instruction around the fire we got down to the grind. Scotty was on a tear and the Redcoats dropped like melting icicles. Greg gave his very best while Sadie and Griffin were relaxing and squeezing like it was a day at the beach. Mark kept hammering at it and Scotty kept racking up scores in the 220s.

It was on the last AQT of the weekend that Mark pounded out a re-qualifier and followed it up with a cleaned Redcoat. Not to be outdone Scotty posted the same Redcoat target from the AM and double-cleared it! HUZZAH!

The round out the smoke and fire weekend we just had to take turns behind the old 20ga smoke pole. Everyone was challenged to put a big round ball through a silhouette at 25m. On the line were the traditional Fabulous Prizes of Unspeakable Value that seem to draw the large crowds to CCFSA every Appleseed.

When the smoke cleared it was the one and only Greg who was declared The Master of the Fowler and claimed his treasure (don't tell the IRS.)

Congratulations and thank you to all our shooters for a great experience and a special call out to the Instructor Corp volunteers who made it happen. Mac did a great job on her very first shoot and is now an IIT1 and Owl1 used the opportunity to teach us few things about IMC and earned his IIT3.

Nice!
Do thou Great LIBERTY inspire our Souls- And make our Lives in thy Possession happy- Or, our Deaths glorious in thy just Defense.

"Before a standing army can rule, the people must be disarmed as they are in almost every kingdom in Europe. The supreme power in America cannot enforce unjust laws by the sword because the whole body of the people are armed"- Noah Webster A.D.1787

". . . They promised perpetual peace.
They swore, if we gave them our weapons,
that the wars of the tribes would cease.
But when we disarmed They sold us and
delivered us bound to our foe,
And the Gods of the Copybook Headings
said: "Stick to the Devil you know."
"The Gods of the Copybook Headings,". Rudyard Kipling A.D.1919

Thank You to Longrifleman, Griffin, Owl1, and Mac. prolly misspelled most of those, but you know.

I believe most of the shooters that were there Sat afternoon and Sun will be back for more History and shooting instruction. I had a fantastic time.
The weather Sat was a little brisk but I survived.

Thank you again to the Wilmington cadre!

Huzzah
Freedom, like land ownership, comes at a high cost, but is never fully paid for, there is always a tax to be paid, to keep what is yours.

Alpha Mom

The marksmanship of the folks attending was stellar.  I look forward to seeing these fun and happy folks again at a future Appleseed.
