What a great weekend at the fantastic Otto Road Shooting Range! We had a total of 9 shooters come out to embrace their heritage of American Marksmanship and Liberty. The weekend weather was cold and wet but every attendee was out for the entire two day event - impressive! Most of them also drove up from Colorado to take part in the event.

After covering the basics of safety, we shot our first target to get a baseline of everyone's abilities. Right out of the gate, Steven cleared the Redcoat target and earned the Saratoga Quarter depicting British General John Burgoyne surrendering his sword to General Horatio Gates of the Continental Army at Saratoga, New York - which renewed hope for American independence and secured support from France. What a great way to start off the event!

I'll work on posting the pictures I was able to take. You can click on them to see the full size photo and click again to shrink down. I'd also encourage any of the participants to post and thoughts, photos or comments into the thread. Registering for the forum is free and it also provides (since you are all from Colorado) the ability to be notified when there is a post to the Colorado Appleseed thread, so you'll be the first to know when new events are planned or posted in Colorado (or nearby in New Mexico/Wyoming).

And for those who were asking, our next event with available slots is a Rimfire Known Distance this weekend in Boulder (May 22, 2021). That will be followed by three events scheduled over Memorial Day Weekend; two half day rifle clinic on Saturday and our first Pistol of 2021 on Sunday(sold out). Come join us!

One heck of a shoot! These tough shooters dealt with some persistantly wet and cold weather all weekend long, and still managed to crank out some Rifleman scores.

It was a privilege to share the line with both great shooters and some of my favorite cadre. Already missing you guys.

Wish Sam could have been here to see it all come off. Too many goodbyes.

We spent the day learning the basics of precision marksmanship and sharing the story of April 19th, 1775 as taught by a great group of instructors Franktown_Kid (Colorado), RegularGuy (Laramie) and Ramblin' Wreck (Tennessee). Every shooter endured the cold, wet weather, kept learning and kept improving! We also had the benefit of our two new Blue Hat volunteers, Digger13 and Colorado Red. It was an inspiring team effort of Appleseed volunteers and our shooters!

There wasn't much time to try the Appleseed Qualification Test (AQT) on Saturday. Matt didn't need much time as he was running his bolt gun like a pro . . . or should I say like a Rifleman!

Sunday, we had some instructors who, after finishing the Pistol event on Saturday came over to help on the Rifle line. Thanks to ScubaSteve (Florida) and Pine Ridge Puma (Nebraska)!

That is a sobering thought to keep in mind today, as well.

Ramblin' Wreck

I had a great time with a bunch of dedicated Patriots. Captain ran a great event and the shooters persisted in some pretty bad conditions. HUZZAH!
I'm looking forward to traveling back out possibly later this year.

On Sunday, we called up our three outstanding youth shooters to be recognized.

Nice Job to all of you!

We also called up the shoot MVP. He was a returning Appleseeder who was 7th Stepping by bringing his family out to embrace their heritage.

David - MVP for excellent 7th Stepping!

This group definitely "made good use" of their freedom this weekend!

M1Bzrk aka the "Head Honcho of Wyoming" (that's not his official title, but the way most address him :) ) also made some presentations on Sunday. First, he presented the official Wyoming State Cadre patch to Master Instructor Ramblin' Wreck, who rode out on his motorcycle . . . all the way from Tennessee! It was a great honor to have him on the Wyoming line this weekend. Although, there was a rumor that he brought the rain . . . hmmmm. :)

ScubaSteve was also officially welcomed to the Wyoming Cadre. And then awarded a special bottle signed by all the instructors as a thank you for coming up all the way from Florida to run our Pistol Instructor Boot Camp.

One of the best things about Appleseed is the chance to meet and spend time with some really incredible people - both shooters and volunteers. A good portion of our shooters this weekend consisted of three families that came out to embrace liberty. Here are pictures of two of those families.

This shoot was dedicated to Master Instructor Sam Gay - known on the forum as Colonial Shooter. He passed away a mere 2 weeks ago and was responsible for organizing and setting up this event consisting of three separate shoots. He was also the State Coordinator for Wyoming and the Regional Coordinator for the Upper Plains. There was a memorial volley fired in his honor and the playing of taps by Pine Ridge Puma.

Rest in Peace Brother

Thanks for the pictures Captain.  Ryder and I had a great time.  The instructors were all great.

It was incredibly informative and humbling.  We have a lot of work to do to be better prepared and we'd like to do it again at some point in the next year perhaps.

Sounds like a most awesome event!!!

I am so sad to hear that Sleepy is leaving the program -- he has been a huge inspiration to many and has made a huge impact on the program as a whole, but especially Wyoming.  I met Sleepy at his first RBC (which I think was his first introduction to Project Appleseed) -- this is where he earned his forum name.   ;D

Sleepy, I know you are a huge advocate for this program and I hate to hear that you are leaving us.  I sure hope that everything is okay with you and wish you the best of luck -- hopefully we will see you again my friend.
It's not about perfection -- it's about progress!!

I LOVE this stuff!

"Perhaps you and I have lived with this miracle too long to be properly appreciative. Freedom is a fragile thing and is never more than one generation away from extinction. It is not ours by inheritance; it must be fought for and defended constantly by each generation, for it comes only once to a people. Those who have known freedom and then lost it have never known it again" Ronald Reagan

What a great tribute to Colonial Shooter. Glad to see that Ramblin' Wreck made the trip! And, ScubaSteve, you just show up everywhere! Wow!  I had the honor and the privilege to meet many of this fine cadre at last year's Douglas IBC/RBC...another of my great Appleseed memories.  So pleased to see ya'll keeping the 'torch of Liberty" burning in Wyoming.

Huzzah for another outstanding event in WY. Lots of well known and famous Appleseeders there. ;)
Hope to meet up with you all in WY sometime. :---
