We all, shooters and instructors, watched the weather all week in anticipation of the shoot. The weather forecast was good, we Alaskans know how fickle the weather can be here. This was the fourth shoot in Kodiak and the last three have been standard Kodiak weather, wet. This weekend was very dry by Kodiak standards.Windy and cool but almost completely moisture free.
14 shooters turned out, prepared for whatever weather happened. The shooters were a mix of experienced and inexperienced, young and old.Two of the experienced shooters we're focused on getting distinguished patches, and were successful,Velma shot a 244 and a 245 and Nat shot a 243,Nat was shooting a bolt gun.Great shooting. Huzzah. All of the less experienced  shooters made good progress over the course of the weekend.Ammunition is in short supply on Kodiak so there were no centerfire rifles in the mix. The visiting instructors did a great job and the students did too. Looking forward to next year.

If men were angels, no government would be necessary. If angels were to govern men, neither external nor internal controls on government would be necessary. (James Madison)

"Young man, what we meant in going for those Redcoats was this: we always had governed ourselves and we always meant to. They didn't mean we should."
(Captain Levi Preston, of the Danvers militia, at age 91, remembering the day)

That it is an indispensable duty which we owe to God, our country, ourselves and posterity, by all lawful ways and means in our power to maintain, defend and preserve those civil and religious rights and liberties, for which many of our fathers fought, bled and died, and to hand them down entire to future generations.  Suffolk Resolves, September 9, 1774, attributed to Dr. Joseph Warren
