The Old Guide

Great shoot at a great club. Monmouth Fish & Game has a covered firing line and they FEED us. We had 8 shooters Saturday so we got started promptly. Experience ranged from total novice to super duper shooter from Vermont. After the Redcoat target we went to squares and quickly found where to focus our attention. We used up the square target and groups tightened.Went to a greencoat target for practice and then to the first AQT.

For our eight shooters we had four instructors so much coaching was available. Our youngest shooter was 14 and had never fired a rifle before. We told him that's good. No bad habits. At 14 Lee had steady hands and great eyesight. He made Rifleman.  Our oldest shooter was 70. He was quite experienced, but had some difficulty transitioning. We did only one rapid fire AQT. However, Dana ended up firing a 234.

We did all three strikes on Saturday because there was some question whether all would return on Sunday. Then on Sunday we had ten shooters. Jim and Ben joined us. I instructed at Putney, VT about five years ago. Dan remembered me from that shoot and he's the guy who shoots in the 240s every time. On the first squares target he put 5 rounds in one hole. He already has his distinguished bar from Vermont and I got to award the only two I ever got in the shoot box last weekend. They will be on my list for the next shoot box which may be our Winterseed at Monmouth. (Date not set yet. At our last winterseed, the snow was so deep we could not see the targets in sitting or prone and the club president, DevilDog had to clear the range with his Kubota snow blower.)

I'm on the road and will add further details when I get back from NH and Vermont.

Our history is not a list of dates and places. It is a dynamic adventure of freedom and individual courage.

Sounds like it was a fantastic shoot. And a brand new shooter shot Rifleman? Huzzah!!

Is it just me, or does a Winterseed up there sound like a lot of fun?!?!?

Good show, Old Guide!

Congrats to both Lee and Dana for their scores.

And it sounds like Dan needs to be taking a hat, and resurrecting Appleseed in the Green Mountain State before it goes totally to pot!

Used to live in the Bangor & Portland areas, and look forward to visiting again once New York and southern New England are liberated.

Way to go Maine! Haven't been up there mush the past couple years but it looks like things are going well.

Great job by those involved, hope you do have a Winterseed.
