Mossberg MVP Thunder Ranch 7.62 Questions

I just purchased a Mossberg MVP Thunder Ranch Rifle in 7.62.

There are some questions that are not addressed in the owner's manual and through some searches online.

Can anyone answer the following:

1.  The rifle has Williams iron sights.  From my online searches they appear to be WGO style sights.  They have small screws on the top and right side of the rear notched sight.  The owner's manual does not address how to adjust these sights.  Can anyone help?  Is the top screw for loosening the windage?  And then you manually push the sight?  And the screw on right side for elevation and manually push sight?  Or??

2.  Will dry firing this rifle cause damage to the rifle?  This is not addressed in the manual.

General questions on GI Sling...

Yes, I am a fan of the GI Sling for range use improving my shooting.  But this thing is noisy.  How do you quiet this thing up for field use?  And the rear clip from coming undone from the rear swivel?

Thank you  for any and all help.

To silence a sling, use duct or electrical tape.
My sling rear clips are so tight they take effort to remove, is yours sprung?

Dry firing will not hurt the rifle.

The MVP has forum for it.

Check out the Williams website for details on the site.  I think they have instructions available for the different models.

The Long Rang MVP is on my short list.
Last evening, it occurred to me that when a defender of Liberty is called home, their load lands upon the shoulders of the defenders left behind. Just as the Founders did their duty for Liberty, every subsequent generation must continue their work lest Liberty perish. As there is no way for the remaining adults to take on the work of those that die, we must pass the ideals and duties on to the children. -PHenery

I am finding that I like Mossberg Products, but not their instruction manuals.  They leave out so much!   To their credit, they do respond to my emails.  It takes them about a week, but they do make a real attempt to answer the questions.

I did poke around the Mossberg Forums but didn't find any helpful information.
The Williams sight site is one of the worst websites I have seen in awhile.  There might be instructions listed, but I never found them.  I will call them.

Thanks!

Another tip to quiet the sling, replace the hook assembly with a traditional QD sling swivel. I use Talon sling swivels, like these: http://ads.midwayusa.com/product/156955/the-outdoor-connection-talon-sling-swivels-1-1-4-stainless-steel-1-pair?cm_mmc=pf_ci_google-_-Shooting%20-%20Slings-_-Outdoor%20Connection-_-156955&gclid=CN6I1Jewl9ECFd26wAodEdYPzg

Doing this gets rid of two metal connections and also limits slop. It does slow removal of the rear attachment point slightly, but getting into the loops sling is already a slow process.

I run four different Mossberg MVPs. My two absolute favorites are my 5.56 Patrol (unscoped) and my 7.62 patrol (scoped with Boyd's Pro Varmint stock). I consider them to be all around utility rifles and stupid accurate out to 500 yards although I regularly train with them out to 200 yards as that distance is the most practical.

My other two are 20" barreled, one 5.56 and one 7.62 with Varmint stocks and scoped.

I was initially concerned about the drop down duck lip on the 5.56 figuring that that would be the weak point. After significant abuse (clodhopper can attest to how I thrash my rifles) I have yet to hurt the darned thing. I am steadily impressed with the MVP platform.

I have run M1a Mags, USGI mags, Pmags, AR10 mags and all feed well. I have noticed that some of the early Pmags have a little more (not horrible by any means) slop in them.

I am considering purchasing a scout model and machining a stripper clip guide into the rear receiver bridge (plenty of meat there as it is virtually identical to the Remington model 40x/700 rear bridge).

I have found the action to be smooth and deliberate although initial movement was a tad gritty but definitely not objectionable.

Another Idea for silencing rifle slings is bike inner tube   but most importantly get rid of the spring steel clip when hunting I switch to either the uncle mikes style sling swivels or Magpul para-clips .

my most recent rifle is a MVP 7.62 Varmint I am running 10 round AR10 P-mags and it is working well.

I would very much consider getting another in a shorter lighter configuration.

Great idea! I love my MVPs in 5.56 and 308. Mine are patrols but have had a varmint.
