Motivating!!!

What else can one say when heading out to a Patriot's Day Appleseed at a site new to you?

And to make it even more auspicious, this is where I passed on the way to the shoot.

When I got to the shoot, it looked like the fair (minus the ferris wheel) was in town, masses of people, masses of parked vehicles, and masses of people. No…not the Appleseed. Seems there was a monster trap event at the range.

So I went a little further, and there we were. Nice looking, about 100 yards available, and a huge roof for overhead protection set back a bit from the equipment line; perfect for admin & classes. Plenty of parking available for us, and the porta-john just a few yards away for those of us whom Detective Fish has become an unintended role-model.

Best of all, SisaLee81,  bakeneko, and NE Bull had everything set up and under control from the moment I got there. Thanks guys, for your dedication.

The shooters were a great bunch, with XX on the line both days, one each coming in on Saturday and Sunday. One shooter had already earned a few Rifleman patches and was bringing a different rifle each time, and another had been to a few shoots also.

Saturday was perfect rifleman weather; mixed precipitation & cold all day. Thank you, God! If it ain't rainin', it ain't trainin'! Where the cold may not have been quite enough to keep things moving, SisaLee81 did with her gimlet eye ever on the watch.

NE Bull and bakeneko rotated thru positions on the line, and in the classroom throughout the weekend, keeping shooters safe and informed. They also did a great job of keeping yours truly on the straight and narrow.

Sunday was boring weather; overcast and in the 60s. The day, however, was good shooting, mostly AQTs, and ending with a memorial volley to those who, fully understanding the risk, gave their lives for their country on April 19, 1775.

We finished with awarding two Rifleman patches each to two shooters. One (one of our veteran participants) took an orange hat. The other Rifleman, understanding the commitment involved, preferred to discuss it with his wife, first.

All hands helped police the range, which was left cleaner than when we arrived.

Thanks to all who helped make the shoot, with special thanks to the Isaac Walton League range in Bennett, Nebraska, just outside of Lincoln. The beautiful facility was what I saw. What I never saw, but heard about secondhand, was the wonderful volunteers and management who enthusiastically embraced Appleseed's use of the range.
