Front sight focus - left vs right

Qualified using red dot. Seeking to replicate using irons. Roger 10/22 Collector's Series (Appleseed design) with stock peep sights similar to Tech Sights. Shooting right handed my right eye could not seem to focus on front sight enough to find the edge. I could focus on the protective ears, but still the front sight's edge was indecipherable. It is like trying to focus on fog.

Switched to left hand...no problems and was able to match my best red dot score.

I can not detect any overt acuity differences between my left and right eye otherwise. Suggestions from vision specialist?

1. Would an AR style post present a more clearly defined edge over the stock ramp sight?

2. Would painting the front sight a vivid color help? Or maybe a glowing fiber optic insert?

I really like my rifle's slim profile (without optic) for backpack scabbard carry, but maybe I just need to admit my age and go back to the red dot or add some glass.

A wid ar post could help. Do you have a distance prescription?

I found that a little bit of this paint on the front sight helped me.  At the very least, it is useful to determine proper elevation for a 6 O'Clock hold, since the front sight doesn't get lost against a black background as easily.  This may not be as vivid as a fiber optic front sight, but for a few bucks I'd say it's worth a try.  Worst case, you can use it on some other firearms.  I have had success filling in the contrast 3-dot sights on a few pistols.

Eye dominance? Worth checking first.
"The great body of our citizens shoot less as times goes on. We should encourage rifle practice among schoolboys, and indeed among all classes, as well as in the military services by every means in our power. Thus, and not otherwise, may we be able to assist in preserving peace in the world... The first step in the direction of preparation to avert war if possible, and to be fit for war if it should come is to teach men to shoot." -Theodore Roosevelt

I always thought my vision was fine until my first Appleseed. Although I did qualify with Tech-Sights, it was hard and my eyes hurt for a day afterward. It seemed like there were more than four targets on stage four. So I went to the optometrist. The verdict was astigmatism, different in each eye. One set of corrective lenses later (installed on Revision Military shooting glasses) and everything was clear again.

One thing you could try if you have an eye dominance issue is put a post-it over your non-shooting eye. That way you can keep both eyes open and still only one looks through the sights.

You might also have different vision in each eye - the blurry one might have some presbyopia (age-related inability to focus on near objects) and the other not as much.

In any case, I recommend a trip to the eye quack. You really can't self-diagnose this stuff.
