Needs to come in a pink stock for those of us with daughters.

Charles McKinley

Hi Grendel,

Just head over to Wallyworld and get a rattle can i believe it was Rustoleum that I used in Fluorescent PINK!  You also need to get the white primer with it.  It tells you which primer to use on the can.  It bonded and held up well on my daughters ATI collapsable stock,

Keep them little girls shootin!

Just checked the galleryofguns.com site for the Marlin LTR:

Due to unprecedented demand,
the Stock Watch feature
has been temporarily suspended.

Has anyone actually been able to buy one of these, yet? Any ideas why they are not yet available? Production issues, perhaps?

Charles McKinley

They haven't started production yet.  Brown will post a notice when they are available.  See the thread that is three or so pages long for details.

Thanks for the update, Stand. Has anyone suggested when they might start production? Or better still, delivery to stores?

I didn't find the thread you referred to. I searched "Marlin LTR" in the fora, and I didn't find any posts discussing availability of the Marlin 795 LTR. I also searched "Marlin" for user "Brown", and I didn't find any threads on the Marlin 795 LTR of his. Can you point me to that thread so I can subscribe to it?

I would be very patient regarding this rifle.  New models take some time for production to kick in.

Here is the thread which you can subscribe to for updates as they come.  Do not expect anything too soon.

Although I cannot address the Marlin special, might I humbly suggest a 795 with extra magazines, tech sights, and an m-carbo trigger spring replacement set for an LTR? Don't forget a web sling from the Appleseed store. Just a suggestion...

Brown

I am in regular contact with the factory guy in KY . just as soon as he lets me know the first components are starting through I will update all the threads. I have also asked the Marlin Sales rep to get with Davidsons and see how long the list is for stock watch.

I realize how excited everyone is . this is just letting us practice patience ;)

Patience, you say? Not me! I went out and bought a Marlin 795 and Tech Sights. I've got some slings on order. I'll be ready for my next AS, soon enough! Besides what I have mentioned, are there any other special features of the Marlin LTR I might like to know about?

The Wolfhound

What you have set up is just about a match.  The coupon for a free Appleseed is about the only thing left.

techres

No barrel mounted rear sight on the LTR from Marlin.
Appleseed: Bringing the Past into the Present to save our Future.

Brown

laser etched receiver, extra mag,and as Techres mentions no dovetail in barrel top for rear sight mounting.

Yea, now that I've got my Tech Sights on there, I was contemplating removal of the factory sights on this rifle. It looks as though that job will require a hammer and a punch. I'm also contemplating plugging that hole with something, just to keep the dirt out of it. Any suggestions?

Anybody make an extended mag release for the Marlin 795? I fiddled around with it some during my bench testing, and I find that the magazines, seemingly durable little things, are going to have to stripped from the weapon. There ain't no way they will just fall out. And finding that little mag release button and stripping the magazine takes two hands. So I guess I'll have to keep my other hand on the fore-end while pressing the button and stripping the empty mag, right?  :P

Oh, and I also discovered that I have a balky ejector. I haven't been to the range with it for firing, yet, but I hand cycled some rounds through it on my bench, and I managed to get a couple FTEs. I'm going to call Marlin in the morning and see if I can talk them into replacing my bolt assembly. I find it odd that the bolt assembly, including the firing pin are factory assembled and held in place by force fitted pins--I don't see any way to remove/replace a firing pin or ejector without tools I'm pretty sure I don't have.

Brown

file the sides of the mag well and they will start to drop free. put some sand paper on the sides of the mags for sweaty hands.

the firing pin can be knocked out with a hammer and pin punch

If you do the filing that Brown suggested they will fall free, or very nearly so. I have three mags and two drop easily. I also found that you can remove some material from the outside of the trigger guard just behind the mag release to make it easier in the winter with gloved hands.

As far as the extractor, don't worry until you get 500 round through the rifle. The extractor is not that important on a 22 except to extract unfired rounds. The action is a blow back style and when the rifle goes bang that shell is coming out. If unfired round do not want to extract, common with 10/22s especially if they have aftermarket barrels, hold the muzzle up and then they will generally come out.

Shoot it first, shoot it a lot first.

YellowHouseJake, you were completely correct about the ejector's role in extracting empty casings. I finally got out to the range with my new 795, and I did my break-in routine (clean after every shot up to 10 shots, every 5 rounds thereafter) with it. In about 60-80 rounds down range, I didn't have a single malfunction (e.g. FTE) of any type, though the firing pin impression on the casings seems marginal, at best--no FTFs, though.

I also wanted to comment on the ease (or rather lack thereof) of magazine removal. Since my last post, I got three additional magazines direct from Marlin. Every one of them was extremely difficult to insert into the mag well! I started comparing my new ones with the original, and I quickly noticed that the spot welded strips on the rear of the magazines were pretty badly buckled by the stress of the spot welds. (See the photos. Original mag on the left--new mag on right. Notice the curl in the upper end of the spot welded strip. Notice also the bevel that I ground onto the locking lug on both--seems to ease insertion past the heavy latch spring.) So I took a light hammer and quickly straightened out those kinks. But they were still way too tight. So next, I got out my calipers and discovered the the 3 new magazines were nearly 0.010" thicker than the original magazine. So I did an additional rework in my bench vise to squeeze the forward (rounded) end of the magazines until I brought the thickness down to match the original mag. Now they insert into the 795 as well or better than the original. But they still won't drop free. And that metal the magazine well is made of seems rather soft, so I am disinclined to start filing on it, just yet.

wingwrench

Hey b1rddOg, when did you get the three additional magazines from Marlin -and- were they seven round -or- ten round??

Mackey Morgan

Wingwrench--I ordered these direct from Marlin a couple months ago and finally got 'em about a week ago.

For everyone's info, the Appleseed NRA Convention team made pitches to Marlin and Davidson's (Gallery of Guns), doing everything we could to expedite production of this "special edition" rifle.

b1rdd0g;

Lucky you!! I spoke with Marlin about a month ago. The guy on that end had a sense of humor...

me "What would it take to get some 10 rounder magazines?"
him "Regime change; you could back order some. "
me "Would I get them for the 4th of July?"
him "No. We do have -some- 7 rounder magazines in stock."
Me (slight pause...) "That will be just fine, then"

Such is life. The youngest girl was just happy to have more than one magazine available for use.

Mackey Morgan

Wingwrench, I must have beat the rush! Lucky, indeed!

wingwrench

Good for you!! I want a promise from you...... that you will use them regularly, enjoy them immensely; Deal?? Create a few more riflemen along the way, too!!

The Wolfhound

I just got a couple of the new ProMag 25 round magazines for my Marlin.  I ordered factory direct and got them in about a month.  I tried one out and it ran flawlessly but I only filled it 3 times.  The other one is waiting for my Appleseed Special once they start shipping, if they ever get around to that..... :wb: :sb:
