The springs in several of the mags are so tight that it is literally not possible to get the tenth round loaded. On another mag it requires all of my strength to get the tenth one in and then it doesn't want to feed the first round.  They're original factory mags. Any ideas?

Don't have an answer for you other than there might be a "speed loader" of some type available that will help. I've got one I use for a 22-45 that works like a champ and saves sore thumbs and time.

As a side note, loading stiff mags you can bend or dent the ammo that will cause failures. Some bulk ammo will be bent out of the box, pitch them down range! :)....O.L.

I'm not familiar with those magazines, but I had a similar problem with a Ruger pistol mag. I had taken it apart to replace the baseplate and when I put it back together I got something in backwards. (I think it was the follower, but I don't remember for sure.) After that trying to load the last round into it was exactly like what you describe.

I wonder if just clipping one bend out of the spring would reduce the tention too much?

Before you go clipping a spring, try leaving the mag loaded (or as loaded as you can get it) for a few days to a week.  Sometimes that can relax the spring a bit.

Of the 3 extra mags I got for my Marlin 795, one did just as you described. My solution was simple - marked that mag with a Sharpie (or similar), not use it, and bought another mag. If I use that mag, it would be prepped with only 5 or less rounds.  Anyone have a good fix for this?

A good friend of mine bought a pair of Marlin 795's, and a half dozen extra mags to go with them.  ALL of his magazines had this same problem at first, and the above method is what he used to fix them.  Prep the mags with as many rounds as will fit, then let them sit.  After a week or so, you should be able to get in the final round, and they'll be good to go after that.

Simply put, the new spring is too strong, and needs to be worked a bit...

I agree with Caliper and ItsanSKS, my 795's springs have gotten slightly softer with repeated use. But if you're really unable to get that 10th round in, after letting 9 sit for a week, then return it to Marlin for a replacement!

All my Marlin mags were really stiff to start with but they break in quickly. Once you've put a couple thousand rounds through your rifle and have calluses on your thumb from loading, you won't even notice. There are a couple DIY "speed" loader plans for the 795 mags floating around the internet. I didn't find it any faster to load but it does save your thumb a little bit. It pretty much only requires using a piece of plastic to compress the spring, then putting a small nail in that little hole near the bottom to keep it held down. In fact, rather than loading with 9 and leaving it to decompress the springs, if you use the nail instead, it will be compressed all the way down to where the 10th round should be.
"We have always looked upon men as a set of beings naturally free - that a people can never be divested of those invaluable rights and liberties which are necessary to the happiness of individuals, to the well-beings of communities or to a well regulated state, but by their own negligence, imprudence, timidity or rashness. They are seldom lost, but when foolishly forfeited or tamely resigned." ~Jonas Clarke

This is a fairly common issue with the Rem 597's too.  Just gotta break 'em in a bit.
On the positive side, they'll last that much longer. O0

Thanks all.  I'll leave the mags loaded for a while and see how it goes.

Leaving the mags loaded works well.  This was suggested to a new 795 shooter at a recent seed and I saw the amg itself a couple weeks ago and it loaded lik BUTTAH
