It was a great weekend we had 17 shooters on Saturday and 15 shooters on Sunday. Instructors included Marpat Whittemore, Dano, L0ck3, LibertyMinded and Jacques.

We had many new shooters and many youth, and we saw great improvement over the weekend!  ^:)^

Our Redcoat scores were as follows: :~ :--- :~
Sat am     Sat pm     Sun am      Sun pm
400       0               2              5              2
300       0               2              2              2
200       4               6              3              2
100       6               2              0              3
HS         1               3              3              5

We had 3 riflemen this weekend, ^:)^ Tom, Edgar, and Jeff, all repeat Appleseeds, and all 3 took orange hats ^:)^! I look forward to working with all of you in the future!

Tom came early both days to help set up. He shot his .223 on Sat and qualified and brought out his M1A on Sunday.
Edgar and Jeff qualified with their .22s on Sunday.

Jeff showed up early both days and gave Allen, a first time Appleseeder  a ride. Both of them were very helpful both days. Allen was posting some very strong scores by the end of the weekend.

All of our youth maintained good rifle safety, learned marksmanship skills, had great attitudes and had a great time. Thank you Finn, Gabriel, Toby, Cody, Max, Zach, Cade, Noah, and Ryan .

It was wonderful to have so many families sharing in the heritage together, and bringing their children to pass on the heritage and marksmanship skills to the next generation! Randy brought his son, and son's friend Gabriel and Toby. Matt brought his son Max. Todd brought Cade. Lorie brought her sons Noah and Ryan. And Dan brought his son Finn.

Dan came with 5-year-old Finn. Finn improved greatly on Saturday from 0 shots on paper Saturday Morning to blasting away the 100 yard redcoat in the afternoon. He had a great time blasting away his self drawn "Monsters" Target all afternoon! Dan did very well and had nice tight groups and was demonstrating great marksmanship skills by the end of the weekend.

Adelle brought her grandfather's bolt action .22. Very cool! Unfortunately the rear sight was tweaked which made for some sighting challenges, which caused her to use a loaner bolt action. But she learned the skills she will need to shoot her grandfather's rifle as soon as the gunsmith fixes it up! :~ :~ :~

Andrew showed great marksmanship improvement. He learned the importance of finer measurements as his red dot scope covered 1 MOA and 1 click changed his POI by 4 MOA. But he adapted, switching from Center of Target to 6 o'clock hold to put him spot on in the center!

Matt had a very teachable attitude, and the perseverance of a rifleman stating he intended to make Rifleman in the future. Keep at it. Proper practice and persistence are keys to becoming a rifleman! In addition he brought his son to learn and pass on the heritage.

Todd and Cade were both shooting very well by the end of the day Saturday! We hope to see you again! :~ ..:.. ..:.. :~

It was very special to have Joy come out and participate! It means so much for Appleseeders to have their special other participate in their passion!

Thanks to all for a great weekend and great attitudes!

Hey, this is Allen.

Just want to say, this was my first Appleseed (and my first formal instruction on firearms), a lot of thanks to Jeff for giving me a ride to Appleseed (and back on Sunday), and to all the instructors for helping me (and Jacque for giving me a ride back Saturday) with my marksmanship. Also, thanks again to L0ck3 for the Ruger 10/22 he lent me.. that rifle definitely shoots better than I can.  :P

The first set of targets we shot I was shooting all over the place, but once I got everything set up properly (elbow under rifle, proper use of sling, proper flat base for the support hand and a nice grip on the firing hand) my groupings closed in, it was like magic. It was awesome that the instructors came around and made sure I remembered the fundamentals.. earlier today I had my support hand gripping the barrel instead of being a flat support (I believe it was LiberyMinded who pointed this out to me) and once I reverted back to flat support my groupings closed in again. Marpat Whittemore brought out his spotting scope and helped me locate my problem of how I was aiming the iron sights, Marpat Pippi came around often to make adjustments to my positioning and was very helpful in helping me with logistics like getting a ride, and Dano saved everyone with his mats today on the wet ground.. overall all the instructors were awesome.

I did not qualify for Rifleman this time, but I am definitely going back another time (hopefully with my own rifle which is back at home and not with me since I live on a university campus) and hope to qualify then. I always was into rifles, and the program definitely confirmed shooting as my favorite hobby.

The "storytime" during lunches was also very interesting, I learned a lot during the talks and brought much more life to the history than I ever got from a textbook or a history class.

I'm going to be sure to keep practicing with my bolt action back at home, and hope to return next time able to qualify for Rifleman. I'm definitely looking forward to helping out with Appleseed once I do and going through the IIT stuff.

Thank you for your response Allen. Hearing from participants is always encouraging and helpful! I know that with practice you will make Rifleman, you made a LOT of progress this weekend. I look forward to seeing you at events in the future!

Wow!  3 new orange hats in Santa Barbie!   ^:)^  There's the making of a real local instructor corps.  Well done all!

We missed you guys, but duty called up in SLO.  We'll make it up at another shoot in the future.

Jeff checking in -- really didn't expect that target to make the 210.
I'm going to see if I can't sneak out to Piru this weekend to confirm my score before I start orange-hatting.  :)

Jeff, bring Allen with you!!!  :D

I am sure you can make that score again.  :)

@jacques: Haha, I'd love to go, but I got tons of homework/work to do this weekend. I MAY make it to the February one in SB, but definitely the ones in the late summer like in September (the June days are final testing days).
