Well, well, well...  We were worried that scheduling a Calverton Winterseed once a month might not have been prudent.  We had 5 pre-registered shooters and 11 Instructors signed up for this event.  We figured we'd have Instructors shooting right along with the hard-core Winterseeders just to keep from tripping all over ourselves, but we were wrong.  Sixteen (16) shooters showed up and the Instructors ended up working.  Ha Ha guys!  Told you your shooting days were over!  Just kidding.  We'll all shoot together soon enough (see below).

Another memorable and historic week-end at Calverton.  We made our first Female Rifleman, and another Female IIT (TJ is finishing up her phd and will hopefully be back).  Congrats Heather!  Red Hat by June Ladyseed?  Either way, I'm sure Mogget will appreciate some local talent.  What else historic...?  ...drum roll please...  We did KD (known distance) at Calverton!   Did I mention there was 2 feet of snow?

Let's see what else happened.  Um, Jeremy made Rifleman and stepped up to IIT as well.  Congrats Jeremy!

What else...  O yeah, three more NYC hipsters came out and fell in love with AS.  In the words of one, "You guys have ruined me.  I'm with you for good."  O0 So check this out; we've got an event a month forever.  We have had a tea party shoot.  We've got the Patriot's Day week-end in April.  We've got a Ladyseed in June.  Rattlesnake is working on the boyscouts and some other groups.  We're gonna have an Instructor Sleep-over on the hill shooting down into the pit, and now... Keep your eyes peeled... Coming this spring to a Calverton Shooting Range near you...  "HIPSTER SEED"!!!  (just don't tell them we're calling it that).  Thank you NY Times!!!!

I know SOMEBODY took pictures.  If it's not photographed, it didn't happen.

Another great time for me with my Appleseed family. I had to cancel my plans to attend but I figured sitting on the couch could wait until every US citizen becomes a Rifleman. I was looking forward to shooting this event but I was proud to step aside for all the unexpected shooters on the line. Shooting from almost KD was a lot of fun to witness from the top of Punkatasset Hill, I feel like I experienced what the Militia felt when they were watching the Redcoats, sorry VietVet. Congrats to Heather you deserve the patch, I am glad yours had the icicles like you wanted and thanks for taking the Hat you will definately save on ammo. Congrats to Jeremy as well and welcome aboard as an IIT. Keep up the perseverance shooters this truely is Strong Island....

Chris is there anymore sausage left ?

But I am of opinion, that, if once General Gage should lead his troops into the country, with design to enforce the late Acts of Parliament, Great Britain may take her leave, at least of the New-England colonies, and, if I mistake not, of all America. If there is any wisdom in the nation, God grant it may be speedily called forth!"

watching the Redcoats, sorry VietVet.

Yeah VV.  I know you're proud of that new, bright red instructor sweatshirt, but it looks a bit shifty when seen from the crest of Punkatasset Hill.   &)  Maybe put it through the wash a couple times.

Punkatasset Hill.  Nice, Rattlesnake.

I forgot to thank Chris for his grill, sausages and firewood.  Others brought firewood, but nobody else brought a grill, mesquite, and 25 pounds of sausage.  We had a nice little fire going all week-end.  Great place to tell the history - sitting around a warm cracklin' fire.  It's probably gonna be cold in February folks.  Start stocking up on those pallets!

Next time we drive back from upstate in the middle of the night, I'll make sure to bring an audio book on the technical aspects of natural gas water heaters...  don't want you to doze off somewhere near Walton...

This was a GREAT EVENT!!

The 2 feet of snow didn't stop the "Hardcore Calverton Shooters" from turning out for this  "Winterseed" Shoot.

Congrats and thanks to all involved.
We told History and made History as kDan mentioned.

Here are some photos of the event. I tried to keep the number of photos to a minimun but it was hard.
The first photo is what the Range looked like when we first arrived.

Enjoy............

gosh what a pretty range.  Who would know?  Great pics, VietVet.  Thanks.   :)

One other thing I forgot to mention.  Half of our 16 shooters were women, and more than half of them either did not come with a man, or were dragging one along with them.

Big Matt

Amazing weekend. Two feet of snow and everyone was comfortable, not too cold, not too warm to actually melt anything. I don't think we have ever had such enthusiasm on the line. Every single shooter was truly engaged, hard working and appreciative of the history and the efforts of the Instructors. While working the road, got great feedback from Michelle and Melissa, two first time shooters, not Appleseeders, ...shooters, who can't wait to come back and who can't wait to go shopping for their own rifles. Saturday was an Instructor's dream, virtually every rifle a 10/22, no lefties to cross up the line, and no sand getting into absolutely everything. New storytellers of the history gave new perspectives and when Rattlesnake's quotes of Buttrick at Concord were priceless! kDan and VietVet did a great job creating the opportunity for our shooters to go KD. Never mind Punkahassett, from the road it seemed more like Meriam's Corner with the colonists shooting down from the hillsides! All in all one of the most fulfilling Appleseed's I've had an opportunity to participate in. A great weekend.

I'm posting this random photo because it speaks volumes.  I count six Instructors in the dirt - I mean snow.

Now that's what I'm talkin' bout.
