I was just confirmed as the guest speaker at the Wayne PA Lions Club meeting on Monday August 23.
My topic is the Appleseed Project!

How this came about is that the wife of the head of the group knows me from church and knows that I am part of Appleseed.  She and her husband were reading the NY Times on Sunday morning and Appleseed came up.  One thing led to another and it led to an invitation to speak.  How we approach the Heritage is what sealed the deal.  This group is made up of Americans and they thirst for knowledge of our heritage.

I've got 20 minutes.  I intend to give a brief background of the organization and our marksmanship instruction and will spend most of my time on the 3 strikes and throw in a couple DOM stories.  I'm going to bring some of the visual aids that I use when I'm SB'ing and copies of the materials we hand out.

A new way to 7th Step for me!

I got the excellent opportunity to talk of Paul Revere to a MA Freemason Lodge a few months back.  It was so nice to give the Story without a dirty hat and an ill fitting Tshirt. :)

You may be surprised at how much they know.  I got several excellent well informed questions at the end of the talk.  Great experience all around.  SWAT Reprints disapppeared.  Gotta do more of those...

BTW, Frank... tried your cell phone video trick on someone's trigger finger Saturday.  Dead battery! **)
Check your drama at the door.

I hear you on the hat and t-shirt - I think my hat is more salt stained from the last couple shoots where it was in the 90's .....I'm glad we have the Appleseed Polo shirts - the meeting is business casual and it'll be nice to have official Appleseed wear while I talk.

gotta keep that phone battery charged!

The presentation went very well last night.  I had 25 mins for 15 people.  More than half of the participants were veterans.  I was warmly received and the group was very attentive.  They knew a lot of the history but not all of the details that we cover.

I spent 5 mins on the background of Appleseed and our mission and the Marksmanship training.  I gave the group the same handouts we use at shoots including the article reprints. -

I gave them a redcoat target and used the redcoat target to transition from marksmanship to heritage.
I used the PA Rifle Regiment entrance test story (for those that don't know that story, there were so many that wanted to join the PA Rifle Regiment that they instituted a qualification test - you needed to make a cold bore shot at 250 yards on a 9x12 board - pretty close to the headshot.  This was great since we had a shooter make that shot with a replica PA Long Rifle on Sunday afternoon.

I spend about 5 mins on each of the strikes and DOM.
I ended with a benediction and the John Adams quote.

Most of the questions were from the veterans who wanted to know about the different types of rifles that were used.
