On July 3rd & 4th we had a LR clinic at Rameseur.  Saturday started off with the start of the clinic then we broke for the monthly HP shoot to get some practice in.  I decided to try the Garand since I'd been shooting the AR for the last few months.  This was the first time I'd shot the Garand in a match situation or at long range.  The standard come-ups worked as advertised but my skill with the Garand was lacking.  Need to work on that.

The next day we shot a long range AQT.  Never tried LR using the D targets so just shot them like a bullseye.  This day I dug out the AR and shot a 44 on standing, 46 on rapid sitting, a 49 on rapid prone and a 35 on slow fire prone.  I was really pleased until I walked  up to the 400 slow fire target and saw a 10 inch group that was 2MOA low.  How can that be?  Then it hit me; shot the M1 yesterday with 1MOA clicks, shot the AR today with 1/4 MOA clicks.  3 MOA drop between 300 and 400 is 3 clicks!!! What did I just do - adjusted the sights on my AR thinking M1.

Always review and write down MOA and Clicks for each shoot.  I should take the advice of experienced shooters and tape the sight adjustments on the stock.  Then read them before every shoot.

So the difference was a score of 208 that could have been a 238 out of 250.

A veteran is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America ' for an amount of 'up to and including my life.' That is Honor, and there are way too many people in this country who no longer understand it.'

OR...don't be a bonehead like me. At Bowler IBC shootin KD with a ,new to me, M1A I adjusted the sights down instead of up. ( Hence my AAR post about learning "come downs")  Not wanting to put on my ego deflating reading glasses and look at the elevation adjustment, I just clicked the corresponding adjustments and let fly.

Walking to targets and seeing the groups get lower and lower til at 400yds they were off the paper was embarrassing. Since then I have gone to the range and learned this rifles come ups and have them taped to the stock for reference. (Thanks D-FLY)

An excellent piece of advice there.  O0
