Why does the Rifleman need to be effective out to 500 yds?
a.  to outshoot potential opponents
b.  to show and prove his skill
c.  to make use of the capabilities of his rifle
d.  to impress potential new shooters

As a tip, the guide says only one is the best answer, but one other, while true, is not the best answer.

"The rifle itself has no moral stature, since it has no will of its own. Naturally, it may be used by evil men for evil purposes, but there are more good men than evil, and while the latter cannot be persuaded to the path of righteousness by propaganda, they can certainly be corrected by good men with rifles."

I'm going with (a)"To outshoot potential opponents"

(c) would be a distant second.

(d) would only be a side effect...impress new shooters about how good the teaching is at Appleseed ;)

According to the guide, JCB is right. Although (c) is not a distant second, but just a smigen behind (a). smle
