Once again, thanks to the Tehama Shooters Association for hosting the Appleseed Project.  They have provided a great facility for our use for the weekend.

Saturday morning, we started with the First Strike, then  our 13 shooters did their best on the Redcoat.   We moved on to 4 moa squares and went to work.  By evening, we had one Rifleman, and improvement all across the line.

Morning   Evening
Redcoat   Redcoat

13            13         Shooters

3              4         100 yard
2              1         200 yard
1              3         300 yard
0              2         400 yard
1              2         Headshot
0              1         Cleared Redcoat

Sunday was a perfect weather for an Appleseed.  After the morning Redcoat, we shot a sheet of squares as our new IITs reviewed the steady hold factors for all of the positions, the six steps, inches-minutes-clicks, and natural point of aim.  Our morning AQT produced one more Rifleman.  During lunch, while we told the stories of Dangerous Old Men and Dangerous Dames, we set up for long range shooting.  Right after lunch, we had our five center-fire shooters work with full-size silhouettes at 100, 200, 300, and 400 yards.  Our rimfire shooters worked with 4 moa squares and scaled-up stage 2 and 3 silhouettes at 100 yards.  We found that with the .22's, comeups from 25 meters to 100 yards were generally 9 moa.  Exceptions were for a bolt action with a long barrel which needed 5 moa, and two AO scoped 10-22s which needed 2 to 3 moa.

Our final AQT of the day saw another Rifleman score, and many knocking on the door, including 12 year old Reed with a very respectable 198.  Reed's father, Kamron, was the third Rifleman of the day.  Kamron, recognizing the importance of the program, took the next step and accepted an Orange Hat.  Thanks!

The Heritage was spoken about throughout the weekend, and the American Revolution lives on in the hearts and minds of a few more citizens.

I really appreciate the help of my fellow instructors Chris_H, Eaglescouter, Norcal22gal, Lucky Shot, and Skill at Arms.  It was my honor to be with all of the shooters and instructors this weekend.

We owe Bob210, Fred, JamesE, and Baldragn a debt of gratitude for their extra efforts in ensuring that we had all the supplies that were needed for this event.  The full distance shooting would have been much more difficult if these individuals had not contributed to our sucess.

My thanks to all of our local event staffers, this event would not have been possible without your dedicated service:  JamesE, Chris_H, Lucky Shot, Skill at Arms, NorCal22Gal.  Your individual contributions to the stew that is Appleseed cannot be measured.  Thank you.

Pictures (coming soon):

1.  Full size D targets at 100, 200, 300 and 400 yards

Good work guys, and gal!!  Rifleman patches awarded, Orange Hat taken, Full distance shooting and a heavy dose of Heritage.  Sounds like great Appleseed weekend.

I remember Kamron and Reed from Sacramento last year.  I also heard that Bob and Ed, who have been to Reno and Gardnerville, came down.  Good stuff.

Yes, Bob and Ed were there.  We had some young people on the line who had tons of fun and learned lots.  Alex even tried eaglescouter's garand. Her first time shooting a high powered rifle....BOOOOOOMMMMM....giggled for a few seconds then finished the clip. Noah who also got to shoot the garand.  Kirstin shot wonderful groups at 100 yds. and tyler discovered that the sling and a good position work quite well and make shooting easier.  Reed's going to make rifleman next time i know.

I think they all enjoyed the history.  I know I always do.

To our new riflemen...congrats.  Kameron thanks for stepping up to take on the instructor hat.

To the rest of the staff, great job, there's no way this could ever happen with out any of you stepping up and getting the job done.  Thank you very much.

Can't wait til April!

Thanks again all.

Picture, pictures, more pictures please!   :D  We were too busy shooting Red Coats to shoot pictures, but I saw a couple cameras so I know there have to be some more pictures there.

We definitely enjoyed ourselves, although with little prep time (less than a week from hearing about it to attending), we had to work out some equipment issues.  We'll definitely have them all ironed out before the April Appleseed.  We also purchased a couple more 10/22 rifles (thanks James on the Big-5 sale tip!) to save money over shooting the 5.56 M193 we were using.

Learned some great history, and made some great memories.  I remember on Sunday, I'd finished my rounds on a course of fire and looked over to the right.  I could see my wife and two kids engaging their targets and I felt a lot of pride.   O0  What more could a man ask for than a wife, a son, and a daughter, that will spend a weekend learning marksmanship!?
