We had a very good shoot in Gibsonburg this weekend. we had new shooters, new Rifleman, new IIT's and also a new Red Hat. Congratulations to every one. The weather was cool and threatened to rain, but the wet stayed away. From what I saw I believe a good time was had by all. Shooters and instructors alike.

Thanks for the great weekend. I can honestly say that it was everything I hoped it would be. Not only did I learn many new skills, I met many friendly, knowledgeable instructors and fellow shooters. I really had a fun weekend. :)

Zack and I had a great time on Saturday. We're sorry we couldn't stay for Sunday. Good to see we added more riflemen. Panama, thanks for letting Zack use your Ruger. He thoroughly enjoyed shooting it. In case you didn't hear, he hit the target @ 500 yards 3 times in a row with Mouse's AR (16"bbl and open sights)! You taught him well. Thanks to everyone for a good experience. Slim and Posterboy, thanks for taking us to the 500 Sat. night, thanks for the challenge coin, thanks for letting us shoot your ammo, and thanks to all for the help in cementing a love of shooting into my 9 year old son. That's what this is all about.

I am glad Zack enjoyed my Ruger. Zack earned the right to use my rifle. He showed the persistence that is needed and willingly accepted all ideas and instruction we gave him. Those are qualities of a true Rifleman. Let Zack know that any shoot he comes to where I am at, all he has to do is ask and that rifle will be in his hands as soon as I can get it to him. I wish I wouldn't have had to go to that wedding. I would have loved to see him hit that 500 yd target 3 times in a row.
Congratulations on earning your Rifleman patch. Bring Zack to another Appleseed soon, we would love to spend another weekend with both of you.

It was priceless to see the look on that fine young man's face when he hit that target that was sooooooooooooooooooooo far away (3x in a row, too!!). Seeing that big ear-to-ear grin made my weekend.
I wanted to pop in here and say thanks to all the instructors at last weekends AS. I have learned that I am not man enough to teach my wife to shoot (patience isn't my strong suit) and so I brought her to the shoot last weekend. I have to say not only did my wife learn a ton, she also had a GREAT time and so did I.
Thanks esp. to Posterboy for the 'Posterboy Special' fix on my glasses. He also took countless hours of his valuable time to watch my finger as I squeeezed the trigger. After 233 times of saying, "Follow through, Jim. Hold the trigger, Jim. Don't drag wood, Jim." I actually started learning!!
Thanks to Broken Sling and Fuzzy Math for spending so much time patiently instructing my wife.
Dinky did a great job of defending The Ohio State honor against the Michigan contingent! Huzzah Dinky!!
Thanks to all the other instructors as well for making it a great weekend for us! With so many orange hats, it was like we all had our own personal instructors!!
Today I did the 7th step. I passed on to the guys at work the fun that I had at the shoot. I have 3 people who want to come with me to the next shoot. One of the three had heard of AS, the other two had not.
I am eager for the next shoot and hope to be "A man who knows well what he is about."

Seriously, as one of the locals, I felt that this shoot went extremely well in almost every regard. This was the second time we've hosted camping, and we had maybe eight people Friday, maybe twelve on Saturday. Covered pavillion right next to the fire pit equippped for "big" cooking, right next to the tent sites --- Appleseed used that facility as was
dreamed of by the builders.
Troy Turner, Ryan Witter and his mom (I can't remember her name) served the instructional staff both dinner, breakfast, and Sunday lunch.
Thank you! This helps us compete directly with Athens on host hospitality!. :)
All you red & orange hats that travelled so far to help us out, thanks! The learning and the camaradarie were priceless.

That's Posterboy for-ya. "Countless hours", not only as an Instructor, but as a host. Arranging the shoots. Buying the material for the line (his own expense). Setting up the line. Taking care of gate security. Breaking down the line. Interfacing each month with the Board of Directors. On top of all that, a first rate marksman, and a tireless, creative instructor. A true rifleman; a tremendous asset to the RWVA. Thanks, Mike, for introducing me to Appleseed!

This was a Great Appleseed weekend. Now don't get me wrong....all of them at G'Burg have been great in 09 but this one was the most successful. Would I have liked to see more Americans on the firing line? of course but as fuzzy mentioned this was the first weekend that camping took off in full force and I really believe that it is what made this one the best of the year! This gives me hope to really fill up the line next year at our events ! I know with the help of the growing G'Burg crew FuzzyMath, Panama, Persistence, Butt Stock we can get this thing humming.
The Turner's. You were PIVOTAL to making this year happen.
Troy.......YOU ARE THE MAN. Not only did you bring Butt Stock to EVERY event but you helped out in so many ways I can't even begin to thank you . I think all of us that have seen you in action will safely say the Founding Fathers are indeed happy to know what you are doing. You are a man who truly knows what he is about. I want you shoot with us next year.

The Great Black Swamp cranked out 4 Riflemen this last weekend ! EVERYONE improved greatly. Was great to see GreenWeenie again and meet Mrs. Weenie who will be a riflewoman soon I'm sure! Like wise to Doug and his brother Jeff who fought his rifle, traffic and even his truck all weekend long but persisted thru it all ! You might remember the You Tube video of Doug and Jeff's mom pinging the 500 yrd target 3 times in a row from the last appleseed !. Speaking hitting 3x..Zack the little dude in size only putting hits on at the big 1/4 mile ! Huzzah. Pedie22 America needs more dad's like you ! Congrats on shooting Rifleman but you know what is more impressive? that you brought Zack ! It was also awesome to see Joy ( ms. Batherick ) and your brother. Your smiles and attitude are an asset to any firing line! Ah yes then there are the Basic's ! you folks did great and made HUGE strides. Remember to dry fire at home the time spent will be well worth it you will see ! Mark thanks for coming out Sunday ! Heathen congrats Rifleman ! I am really glad you came. Folks Heathen worked ALL night Friday then came to Appleseed ! how's that for dedication and desire to learn the American craft of marksmanship! You are a man with skills and our country is better for it.

I'd like to thank FunFaler. I attended my first appleseed on a VERY slanted Kentucky hillside in April 07. He invited me down did everything he could to make it great experience for me. I accepted my Redhat and it is entirely due to him. Not only that but MeanStreaker , Techres and I were all on that hillside that weekend. This just goes to show how just ONE appleseed can have a big impact. Two Shoot Bosses and a redhat from a single appleseed. Maybe BIG things are in YOUR future ? only you can make it happen but there are plenty of people to help you out along the way.
Last but not least thanks to Dinky, Meanstreaker and Slim. Without your help, dedication , patience and humor I wouldn't be were I am today.

Wow, Another great shoot at G'burg.
I learned so much and took a long list of mental notes for Team Illinois.
I agree with Fuzzy Math, The Turner/Wicker family set the bar very high for hospitality. Troy, Lisa and Ryan I'm sure I speak for all the shooters and Instructors in saying, "Thank you all so much!"
The best part of the weekend was watching two men that I have known for a long time, put in a lot of sweat and earn their rifleman patches. Bill, or should I say "Pinky" thanks for being such a great sport with the 210 score. I don't think anyone will ever forget that or the Mop and Bucket comment of Hooters Billy. (You just had to be there)
I had such a great time all I can say. Is Team Illinois will continue to bring Wolverines into the Buckeye state, just to watch the FUN. Team Buckeye... Woody would be proud!
Congrats to PosterBoy on the Red Hat!! O0 There are alot of shooters that own it all to you. I'm one of them.

Just wanted to say thanks to all of the instructors and participants for this past weekend. By Sunday night I was sore, tired and worn out....and felt GREAT!! The instruction was top notch and the training worked on so many levels. I didn't get rifleman this time, but I will be ready next time I show up. And next time I do show up, I will be bringing 3 others with me...confirmed!! :~

What an incredible weekend!
The bar to consider a shooting outing spectacular has just been raised. When you show up Friday and leave Sunday you cannot help becoming an active participant and see what it takes to put on an Appleseed. Just to get away from everything electronic and focus on the task at hand was pure utopia. Throw in three of your best friends, instructors everywhere, a gifted and passionate Shoot-Boss, food so plentiful it seems like manna from the sky, some of the best weather this season and you have Gibsonberg, OH, September, 2009.
If you missed it, you missed a really good one. There are so many people to thank that I could not possibly give everyone their due so let me summarize THANK YOU TO EVERYONE!
I do feel it proper to point out my observations of one individual whose character is beyond reproach. This individual not only exceeds all expectations on the line but his moral compass extends beyond and even into the parking lot. Even "off-duty" Posterboy symbolizes what Appleseed is all about and surely he is a Man Who Knows What He is About. He deserves the Red Hat and gives me hope for the future of America and a land of the free inherited by my children.
GO BLUE! I scored 210, got wet and I am happy about it. When we think back on events in our life such as a vacation, school or other "outings" it is not the mundane things we remember. The significance of the exceptional is what we remember the most. Well, standing in front of 50ish people suffering the indignity of wearing Pink floaties on my arms and getting (was it nearly frozen?) water dumped over me was one of the most memorable events of my life this year. I shall never forget nor do I imagine some others will either. PS: I scored a 222 later on Sunday ;)
I look forward to seeing all my new friends again. Perhaps I can get them to come to Dundee?

Every time I head to the Great Black Swamp something magical happens. G'Burg always hosts some of my most memorable events, and this was no exception. Great to see family groups working together - fathers and sons, brothers, husbands and wives, and even old friends and neighbors out to support the cause of freedom and participate in the time-honored tradition that is marksmanship. Confirming the skills learned at 25 translates directly to 500 was, once again, proof that this Appleseed stuff really works. Camping, fireside chats, fellowship.... a community of Riflemen working together to rebuild our great nation. Folks came in from at least six states - there's something to be said about that!
A few events ago up at G'Burg a young Marine called Jesse was shooting on the line adjacent to us. He observed all our safety rules, cleared the line with us, etc., and boy could he shoot! When we headed down to the 500yd. line, he went with us. His marksmanship was top-notch, but what really stood out for me was the Heritage that he brought with him. He'd recently returned from Iraq, and although he didn't share too much, he shared just enough for all of us to know that what he'd been through was something none of us would ever want to experience. He'd seen it first-hand. He'd lived through it. Now, he was back with us and sharing what he could. I'll never forget that look in his eye as he recounted the stories of things that'd happened and brothers who were lost.
The highlight for me from this event was meeting PB's old man. I'd heard about him several times during Posterboy's Dangerous Old Men renditions, but now, standing before me was the 84-year-old Dangerous Old Man himself. A man who'd flown over Germany at 19, taken shrapnel in the arm on his 13th mission, and who was now looking at me with those same eyes that'd seen the horrors of war some 65 years ago. Those eyes still carried the fire and courage of a young boy sent off to war, but they now carried the sorrow and pain of an old man who'd seen too much of a country ungrateful for the sacrifices of his comrades.
The truly sad thing was both he and Jesse shared the same look.
As too tall commented, "the smoke was kind of starting to get in my eyes when we were talking with him."
Me too.
What caused our eyes to get all "smokey" was the fact that despite the sorrow and obvious frustration these men showed, there was no remorse. There was no regret for the sacrifices they'd made. Far from it. There was optimism! There was hope! "Keep up the good work. You guys are really doing something. Get out there and show them. Make them understand."
They've seen first-hand what it's like. They've experienced the same tragedy and horrors the boys back in '75 did but yet they keep hope that their forefathers and their brothers in arms from then to now didn't die in vain. Like Nathan Hale - their only regret was they have but one life to give.
They still believe in America. - And so should we.
Has John Adams repented in Heaven? Maybe. But just maybe he's seen what we're doing at the Great Black Swamp and many other places throughout this wonderful land and just maybe he has that same hope in his eyes that these men have in theirs.
Honor them. Honor all of them. Hit the trail hard and "make them understand."

You bet! What've you got going up there? Dennis K. said he thought he stood a good chance of getting the Dundee Sportsmen's Club to let the RWVA host some shoots. Do you know anything more specific than that? It'd be great to get that going!
