Title: Bottineau, ND, August 22-23

The second Appleseed ever in North Dakota went very well.  Alex drove 12 hours from Iowa to serve as Shoot Boss for the weekend, while myself, ChrisS, and Banjoman worked the line as Instructors-in-Training. The weather was perfect for the occasion with fairly moderate temperatures, mostly sunny, and not very much wind.

Approximately 20 shooters filled the line, at least half of which were young people who were very enthusiastic with what they were doing.  Several were unfamiliar with their rifles at the beginning, mainly because they were using loaner rifles, but to their credit they soon figured out how to smoothly operate them and were shooting great by the end of the weekend.

The first Redcoat target proved the need for instruction.  We worked through the steady hold factors, the six steps of firing the shot, NPOA, cadence, and sling use and soon had the whole line making much improvement.  Saturday evening, Eric made Rifleman with a score in the 220's after switching ammunition.  Sunday, we had another Rifleman, 14 year old Adam, that blasted through 210 to around 230 if memory serves correct.  Later on Adam decided to do a full QDAQT left handed (his weak side) and still came through with 200 points.

There was also one repeat Rifleman from a previous Appleseed.  The rest of the line made considerable improvement; almost everyone was shooting at least in the marksman catagory after having been unqualified earlier on, and many were crossing into the Sharpshooter level with one or two additional people just two or three points short of Rifleman.

Alex did a great job of presenting the history of April 19, 1775, and encouraging people to get involved in their country's affairs.  Everyone was very attentive and commenting on how much they had learned.

Pictures are coming soon!

Click on the Additional options block, and add them there.

You can add direct from your PC, they'll attach as a file on this server and will expand to normal size.
