I'm on for Shoot Boss July 18-19.  Who's coming?  Calling FFLs and e-mailing them fliers is a good way to generate interest.   Gunbroker.com has an ffl finder feature by zip code.  Anybody up for this?

I just posted a flyer at Target Master in Chadds Ford, Delaware County, last night.  The gentleman I spoke with said he had heard of the program and kindly consented to posting it on their bulletin board.  I'll try to get out to Village Arms in Gap and the Sportsman's Shop in New Holland before the weekend.

Let's all get involved!

I drove around Pike and Wayne county today dropping off flyers at gun shops, sporting goods, taxidermy, and some country stores.  The regular rounds, but it's nice to be promoting Pa shoots instead of NY state!!

With times tough like they are right now, ammo so expensive, and so many out of work, it's on us even more to not only get the word out about the events, but take an extra 30 seconds to really explain why this is so important right now.

Like Buzzworth puts it at his shoots in Vermont, "For centuries, everybody around the world has come to America for Freedom when they could no longer find it at home.  Well, if we lose our Freedom now, where are WE going to go?"

All signed up for July 18th and 19th.

This will be my first time at an Appleseed event; timing is perfect as I am a new owner with a new rifle. I come ready and willing to learn everything that I can.

Brian, try to make sure you get some rounds through that rifle, and we look forward to seeing you there.  I hope your sights are easily adjustable, but if not, we'll make due.

Just a few days before this one.  Looks like we've got some more spots on the line too.

I'm bringing some toys.  Not rifles, but things that fall down when you shoot them, then stand back up.  We may be able to have a little fun on Sunday.  It's easy with a small group, so those of you that are coming this week-end - nice one, you'll not be disappointed.  Anybody on the fence, you should sign up.  We're gonna have fun.

Hey Guys - Weather's looking good and I'm really looking forward to my second Appleseed.  I'm bringing two thirteen year old nephews who are new to shooting with a matched set of 10/22 LTRs.  I'm going to see if I can do justice to my M1A.  I'll set up on the right side of the line so I don't rain burning hot brass on anyone.  See you all on Saturday morning.

Hi kDan and Frontsight,

And I thank you both for the warm communiqué!

Thank you for the advice kDan; I have sent about 150 rounds down the barrel since the new purchase. Only problem seems to be that when it's sighted in,  it than shoots quite differently the very next time I get it out and use it, although I suppose it could be me in combination with too much cleaning of the barrel between range visits.

Then again, the above described problem is only one of many reasons that I am coming, like a sponge I am ready to absorb all there is to learn and know about this activity.

Sighting is fairly straight forward, remove scope caps and dial in.

In any case it's going to be an uphill battle for me, 17 HMR bolt action 5-cartridges to a magazine. I did purchase another 4-magazine's, a sling and 500-rounds.

I really look forward to learning as much as I can and wish I could get my hands on a 10/22 Ruger with open sights. I'll keep asking around about borrowing any type of  semi- automatic .22 loner for the day as a backup.

In any case I am really excited and look forward to meeting you both!

Any other pre-event advice is much appreciated. O0

Best Regards,

Brian

Frontsight,

Good work bringing the teens.  If you have a .22 for yourself, bring it as well.  If you're down the right end of the line, that's where I'll be standing so I can feel the air pressure change from your .30 cal.  I'll be catching your brass in my shirt pocket if you don't watch out.

Brian,

At this point, just bring the rifle the way it is.  Good you put the 150 through it.  Cleaning will change the zero, especially on a new rifle.  We'll get you sighted in by 10 o'clock and burn through those 500 by late Sunday afternoon sure thing.

Still time to drag your neighbors, relatives, and friends along.  I'm looking forward to our first shoot at this new Range.

Hi kDan,

Thanks for the words of encouragement,

Just to be on the safe side, I ordered 500-MORE additional rounds; they shipped on Monday and will hopefully arrive by Friday.

I really want to get the most out of this rifleman instruction that I possibly can! 8)

I figure it's better to take extra cartridges home, than to run out! O0

Best Regards,

Brian

Brian, I will be sending an extra loaner LTR to this event (mags & ammo too if needed).  PM me and I'll introduce you to the bearer of said rifle (a first-timer as well).

Kdan - My .22s are going to my nephews.  I shot rifleman out at Allemans back in April and I want to attempt it with my M1A this time before I try on an orange hat.  Just sighted it in at 25 meters this morning.  I think I bottomed out the elevation knob.  I'll do my level best to avoid hitting you with my brass.  There was a guy at Allemans who was shooting a 7X54 Russian something or other and I kept getting his brass on my back.  Can't wait to get back down in prone!

When you start getting into the bubble you won't feel that hot brass until after the course of fire.

Hi Frontsight,

Gap, PA is about 17-miles from my apartment here in Terre Hill, PA, (17581), about a 30-minute ride south for me on 897. My gun club is about 15-20 minutes north of Terre Hill.

You leave near Gap, PA?

KK,

Good idea to bring the extra ammo.  Us North Eastern folks can go 750 rounds, believe it or not.

Quote from Spanner  -  "Brian, I will be sending an extra loaner LTR to this event (mags & ammo too if needed).  PM me and I'll introduce you to the bearer of said rifle (a first-timer as well)."

- That's great!  I won't be able to bring any LTR's, and I was eye-balling his earlier post.  I won't say why I won't have any to save all the jokes for those who make the shoot.  Send 4 (four) mags, so we can run a rapid fire or two.  That reminds me, Spanner, why aren't you coming?  .

Frontsight,

As long as it ain't Berdan primed, I'll be running around catching your brass before it hits the ground!!  If you want it back, I only charge a 20% premium. :)  Bottomed the rear sight at 25, eh?  How long have you had the rifle?

And B9's right about the bubble, but the funny thing about those 7(.62) x 54 (mosin nagant)'s is when you're sitting next to them, they change YOUR npoa with each shot.  If you're in the bubble, you don't even know you've hit bulls on six different targets.  bouncin all around...  BOOM!  They're all bad guys, right?

Hi all,

I'll be sure to bring extra ammo with me for the LTR.

I would rather everyone go home with some ammo left over than see one person have too little.

I hear you about the cannons, I may be a newbie to this but I'm not deaf, and yes I noticed that my shooting drifts when the cannons start going off and that hot brass starts flying all over the place.

It's all fun and games till it lands on you, smile!

I suppose as a newbie there are a certain amount of dues that one needs to pay; it's all in good fun.

I'm about as Excited as a Fox in a Henhouse! ::)

Best Regards to all,

Brian

Any free camping around Manheim?  Or lower cost than the $38 tent price at the RV park?
Title: Re: Manheim PA DAR Appleseed Multiple Dates

Sorry - It's all Berdan primed.  I bought it cheap and stacked it deep a few years ago.  I think I paid 140.00/1,000 for most of it.  Seems hard to believe now.  The man is absolutely correct about the bubble.  I remember wondering where the heck all that big brass came from - the guy next to me was laughing cause it was dropping all around and on top of me during the course of fire and I really never even noticed it.  KK - I live south of Downingtown - Gap is around 30 minutes west of me.  I shoot at Atglen Sportsmen's Club in Atglen.  That's just south of Gap - maybe 10 minutes.  Great range, goes out to 500 meters.  I've been through Terre Hill a few times - used to go up to Weaver's to buy boots and stuff.  Be good to meet everyone on Saturday - I hope the weather holds out for us.

I found United Zion Camp Grove, 2298 Camp Road, 717-665-3918

It looks to be just a couple miles from the range. They quoted me a price of $16/ night for a tent site (RV site ?) over the phone.

Greetings,

My name is Jason and I am hoping to attend the November Appleseed.  Actually, I am hoping to bring another 2-3 friends + spouses. However, one significant problem is that most of us are new or non-shooters. (As in do not own a rifle.)

I myself own a Mini14 but am hoping to pick up a 10/22 as it'd be cheaper to buy the 10/22 and shoot then to shoot my .223 supply.

I was wondering if there were any rentals or loaners available. I am hoping to get a few "libertarian" friends of mine who are pro-2nd Amendment but non-gun owners to attend. In the hopes rectifying that failing and encouraging them to add the means to defend their liberty.

;-)

I'm one of the instructors and I will have 1 loaner available.  The other instructors usually have a loaner as well.  If you are going to pick up a 10-22 get the Tech Sights as well since the factory sights on teh 10-22 are not adjustable.

NUGUN,

WELCOME!!!! Let me know how you make out getting rifles for everyone and please confirm how many will be registering. Once we know for sure who needs rifles I'll be able to try and find loaners, but I can't guarantee it. If at all possible buy, beg, borrow, and... well that next step isn't a good idea, LOL. Anyway we are glad to have you on board and we'd love to help in anyway we can. Feel free to email me directly at pa@appleseedinfo.org if you have questions.

A couple quick questions. I just picked up my rifle today. (was waiting for delivery and wasn't sure if it was going to arrive on time).

It's a 10/22 with the junky leaf sights. I don't know of any place that stocks the tech-sightsin the PA area, do you?

I did pick up some truglo fiber optic replacement sights. I find they help with focusing a bit as my eyes won't focus on the stock frontsight. They also have anelevation adjustment screw. Not as nice as the tech-sights but better than stock ones.

I am going to try to have them swapped out tomorrow. I tried on my own but couldn't get the old ones out. Even using a brass rod and hammer.

I also could not find a GI sling, not sure if you have any available for sale.  I do have a cheap walmart "super sling".

Will the above be manageable?

Nugun, I am bringing a scoped spare 10/22, but don't have a spare sling.  I think the slings and tech sights are mail-order only.  I got by with a Walmart sling at my first (and only) Appleseed.  My daughter used a leather loop sling and did even better.  But her eyes are still good.  The tech sights are definitely worth it.  See you there.

PS  Per the Tech Sights instructions, the 10/22 front sight has to be drifted out left-to-right.  It also says to secure the barrel just below the front sight, and support the whole rifle to avoid bending the barrel.  Anyway, it worked for me

The instructors will have some slings to lend/sell as well as rifle's to loan out.

Nugun - I'll have a loaner 10/22 with the full AS setup if you need it.  French Creek Outfitters in Phoenixville has 1 1/4" sling swivels and the setup for the 10/22 studs if you are close to them.  They also have 1" nylon slings that would be pretty close to the USGI if not exactly the same.  See you tomorrow.

BTW, now that I have attended. I'd like to do a little more to support you guys. My blog is rather small. But I'd still like to put up a banner ad/link.  Do you have any graphics/logos for promotional use?

Come on out!  We'll lend you a Ruger 10-22 so you can take advantage of all of the training.  Just bring a brick of .22lr.
We do most of the shooting at 25 meters.  Sunday afternoon we go to 100 yards.  You can get some trigger time with you other rifles too!

ain't nothing wrong with a k98!  Maybe practice rapid dry-firing a bit before you come out.  Just don't work the bolt all the way back so's to lock it behind the follower, and go prone in your living room for a few minutes at a time.

Borrowing one of Frank's 10/22's is a good (and less expensive) way to go as well.  Reloads are certainly easier and faster.

I'm bringing my 91/30 this weekend, and a 10/22.  Bringing my father on Saturday, and he's insisting on using his M1 carbine - despite ammo costs.  I plan on using the 10/22 and the 91/30 for Saturday, and just the 91/30 for Sunday's longer range stuff.  At least ammo is cheap for the 91/30, and if your shoulder can take the abuse, I'd say to go for it!

This will be my first Appleseed, and depending on how things go, I'm hoping to find out more about what it takes to have one at a range closer to home.....

Hey all,
This is my first post and my first A.S.
I do have some questions.... First... What time should I be there on Saturday May 15??? And is there any place to park my camper on Sunday as I will be going home right from the range?
Please get back to me asap. I'm not too good with this computer or this website so here's my email so you could contact me that way too. ivyfarm@ptd.net I would give out my phone # but the wife would shoot (I mean hit me in the head with a pan) me

Thanks for all your help

We start around 8:30 a.m., so get there sometime before then.  The Manheim range has a fairly large parking lot, so you should have no problem parking with your camper on Sunday.  I hope this helps.  See you this weekend.

June 19/20

Any Pinch Pond campers?  I just rented a tent site and probably there is room for at least a couple tents per tent site.

See you there!
