It is now official and on the schedule! We will date the other dates soon.

Cowdog, I modified your topic title for consistency.

I am SO annoyed that you got the Timothy Murphy name.  Being a son of a Donegal father I was really hoping we'd get that for the eastern part of the state.  Good luck with it though.  I would like to propose a Timothy Murphy memorial shoot.  Perhaps a silver cup at stake?  Eastern vs Western?  What think ye?

I am genuinely sorry Frontsight about the Name. If it makes you feel any better, I voted for "Pennsylvania Associators Memorial" though I honor the memory of Tim Murphy as well.

Funny thing too, I think Murphy was Green Irish and my ancestors were hardcore Orange! **)

I love the idea of a fun match, as we build teams on each side of the state, if it does not violate the general principles of Appleseed. Maybe we could meet in the State College Area  (neutral ground) for the match.

A little friendly competition is always good. Lets see which range produces the most Riflemen & Instructors.

We will need a good number of Instructors in each area just to handle monthly shoots not counting other shoots in the state.
We need to get people to an Appleseed or two and shoot 210 or better, then off to an Instructor Boot Camp.

Looking at the current schedule it would not be hard to hit an AS this weekend and next and be ready for the pending PA or NY IBC in July.
To far to drive? You can not even imagine how far some people in this group have driven, flown, walked to just get where we are now.
If we believe AS is the answer it is not a chore, it is a mission.

When talk of independence was in the air the following was proclaimed by some citizens of Lancaster County:

Resolved from Hanover Township, Lancaster County, June 4, 1774; that in the event Great Britain attempting to force unjust laws upon us by the strength of arms, our cause we leave to heaven and to our rifles.

The range name was voted for in mob rule popular vote fashion contrary to the Founders wishes. It is an excellent name.

EDIT: While rereading what is one of my favorite quotes I see a flaw. It should be "our cause we leave to Heaven, our rifles, and our own determination to get it done."  The original quote seems to leave it up to Heaven to do it for you.

The range now has its own blogsite.

www.murphymemorialrange.blogspot.com (http://www.murphymemorialrange.blogspot.com)

the site is just a shell so far, but will let people find appleseed info without sifting through various ramblings on farming and religion at my personal weblog.

I will be adding a virtual tour, the first shoot date info and some historical info on Tim Murphy later.

I saw a woman in Brooklyn with a t-shirt from the Timothy Murphy "fun run".  Image of a minute man running with a rifle.  I don't know where the run was staged and she didn't know who Timothy Murphy was, but I guess competition is in the man's legacy.  I bet he welcomed all comers.  Count me in on TEAM EAST!  Maybe I should get some "poconos" rockers made up.   O0

I'm very excited about this summer and Pennsylvania's future.

Interesting. I do not see anything about this after a few years ago. Perhaps they no longer do this. One of the sponsoring gun clubs is not far from Albany or Burlington Flats (soon to be NY latest new ranges). Not much into a 10k run myself with all the hardware in my knee but it is something to check into.

I hope to update the DAR weblog this weekend with some photos and more info.
RE rising registration: maybe the Tea Party promo is having  an effect on western Pa events.

Truly happy to see you were able to get your site up and going while I was out of commission for the last 2.5 months. This looks awesome and the idea of a little competition sounds like fun. I will help keep score as State Coordinator. I'm pretty much back in in the game so what ever you need Cowdog let me know.

Add 1 new rifleman from Manheim (eastern PA), way to go Jake!!! We also added a new IIT, Way to go John!!! Jake's uncle.

Unfortunately I had to call it a day 3/4s of the way through Sat because my new to me CMP M1 Garand decided to blow up in my face  >:( Still trying to figure out what happened but it was a costly weekend for me at my first Appleseed. I guess someone was looking out for me since I was pretty much unscathed for the the mishap. More on Manheim will be posted over in the AAR section. Looking forward to next month and making my rifleman score...hopefully.

All

We're just a week away from the christening of the new Timothy Murthy Range! We've got some exciting things planned for the students at this opening event, such as a musket demonstration and a chance to take out some "exploding targets" (OH YEAH...you hear that right! PA appleseeders get to blow up stuff...lol! Who wants to miss that??! Seriously! By the way...we will be taking volunteers for the bucket brigade...)

LOL!!!

Ok all, if you haven't gotten signed up, better get on it. Ever wondered what a 50 caliber ball and powder will do to a redcoat? Well, I'll give you a hint...this redcoat is probably gonna end up in smoke and flames....bwwwaahahaha! There's camping on site, a camp fire to cook on, and plenty of stars in the sky to go around. This is one of those shoots they'll be talking about for weeks after, so you don't wanna miss it!

Hope to see you there!

I'm sorry I won't be there. I've been thinking about getting a flintlock rifle for demonstration purposes, and to find out just how well it does on redcoats and how long it would take to finish an AQT with it. I'm looking forward to the pictures of the event.

Sadly, right now I can't afford the land to build a good house and rifle range myself. Plans and plots are still in the works tho. :)

AQT flintlock speed:
If you could really hustle with a tight patch, rifles barrel, and ball, maybe 20-25 minutes.
Smoothbore Musket,  without tight patch maybe 3 rounds per minute aimed fire.

Cowdog, it was an honor to be at the inaugural shoot at Timothy Murphy Memorial DAR this month. Now that you're open, we need to find a shoot boss for a new event. The PITTSBURGH AIR NATIONAL GUARD SHOOTING TEAM is interested in coming up to shoot. I don't know how many there are, but I want to bring a couple guys so we should have a full line. You make the call!

Really what we need to do is set a date and get the shoot on the schedule. Then the shoot will be on the Instructor schedule and interested Shoot Bosses, Instructors and IIT's can sign up to work it.

B9,
We are looking at either Oct 3/4 or Oct 10/11.  I Pm'ed Layke about the two dates because I want him and his son to be able to come back and shoot. As soon as we finalize, I will get word to you.

Thanks,
Cowdog

Cowdog, Oct 10/11 looks the best for me. My son won't know until he gets orders for Oct if that is a drill weekend or not. But I have invited a Viet vet friend of mine to come, and my son, Bob, told the ANG shooting team about it and they are getting excited about it. Bob did a hard sell, as active military have security clearances to protect but he reassured them that this is a learning experience and they were satisfied. I don't know how many there will be, but I'm working on more. I hope you can give as riveting presentation as last week and we would all like to know the meaning of the flags (that we missed).
I hope Dinky is feeling better now, the heat certainly took it's toll.
I will also make sure to bring my EZ-Up anda PA flag!!! Thanks, Doug

Cowdog, I just heard back that either the 3rd or the 10th would be good, so it is your (and the instructors) preference.
Thank you for what you do, Doug

I've read several of "The Guys" posts and it raises some questions about which are the best books to read as judged members of this forum? For instance, I looked on Amazon for "Paul Revere's Ride" and several come up by different authors. My interest is peaked in reading more about the truth of our founding, without buying a book that re-writes history that is so prevalent today.
I'm pretty sure this is not the place to ask this question, but it seems to be the only one I can reply to and seem unable to create a new post anywhere. Thanks for your help, Doug (and old newbie)

Duh! I found it......... plain as day in the upper right hand corner "New Topic". Just read the directions, Doug.
