Hi Chuck,
This is Ryan. Thank you very much to you and your team (Klint, Lee, and Lew) for hosting a rigorous two-day Appleseed event! Both my fiance (Kaitlyn) and I really enjoyed both the training and history aspects of the course. Every one of the "red hats" was a font of knowledge for both aspects. I've got a lot of learning to do since I had to "unlearn" my incorrect shooting style while learning prone/sling shooting for the first time, but all of the instructors on site did everything they could to carry me over the finish line! I personally appreciated your willingness to walk us through different rifles you had on hand, and let us swap them out for ours as needed.
On that note, I'd offer the following recommendations to any new attendees. Even if something isn't asterisked as "important" on the material checklist, bring it. I didn't realize slings would be incorporated in every stance, so I didn't buy one ahead of time. More importantly, be wholly familiar with the rifle that sling is attached to. I've been lucky enough to have decent accuracy with all of my past rifle purchases straight out of the box. But I didn't find out until the second day that my new .22 I purchased was at least 10 MOA off (and it wasn't just my unfamiliarity with the stances). Everyone on hand provided valuable feedback and tutorials on each stance, so I could still take more than my fair share away from the course. But I completely underestimated both the difficulty and vigor of the course, so I was learning in spite of myself. Finally, I can't understate how much this course takes out of you. It's "only" shooting and transitioning to various positions. But even with history lessons giving us a breather and perfect mid-60s spring weather, it was taxing.
Kaitlyn was already talking about training for an AQT in the future, and mentioned that she'd also love to do one again WAY down the road once we have a kid that's the proper age. Once that time comes, I think I'll finally be ready to qualify as Rifleman myself!
Again, thank you to all of the volunteers for coming out this weekend, and you'll probably see both of us again once we have time to work on our fundamentals and build a stronger foundation for shooting.

Don't put those rifles away. Remember dry firing at home will greatly improve ones Steady Hold Factors and the 6 Steps To Taking The Shot. Look forward to seeing you both on a Firing Line soon.
