Commitment & Perserverance was seen in abundance last week end at the RWVA home range. On the heels of a very successful RBC, typically Ramseur Feburary cold, a group of very dedicated shooters started to arrive Friday night, 27 Feb. Saturday morning might have dawned dark, cold and rainy there was nothing but dedication, commitment, enthuisiam and eagarness in the eyes of those that got up off the couch. Though the rain slowly worsened and the cold intensified through the day, the questions and the performance of the attendees left no doubt that they were there for the duration. Part of the success though was due to a new batch of exceptionally dedicated IITs coming out of the boot camp. Their willingness to step up and engage the shooters and share their knowledge in those adverse conditions, and to actively look for ways to contribute more was in the highest traditions of Appleseed. Sunday morning was dedicated to review and some more history due to the local shooting restrictions on Sunday morning but again the participation of shooters and new instructors left no doubt that they intended to stay off the couch. The first shot was down range about 1215 and though the rain was horizontal by this time and the temp hovered around 35 the focus was not lost. Some shooters made a prudent decision to start home in the face of a impending ice and snow storm that arrived right on schedule with ever bit of the intensity that was forcasted. One break was taken in the shooting to go pull a fellow Appleseeder out of a ditch running full of water, the result of a tire blow out. The last AQT was shot about 1445 with personal high scores of 207 and 217, a new Rifleman, in rain so hard that the targets were melting off the backers. If the trip home for these Appleseeders and new IITs was like mine they got to see horizontal rain, horizontal snow, zero visibility and ice and sleet--did I miss anything? This one goes down in the record books as an example of COMMITMENT and PERSERVERANCE. My thanks to all for making it so.
