Title: The American crisis.Thomas Paine
Post by: Oldmikey on August 23, 2020, 11:43:35 AM
THESE are the times that try men's souls. The summer soldier and the sunshine patriot will, in this crisis, shrink from the service of their country; but he that stands it now, deserves the love and thanks of man and woman.

Tyranny, like hell, is not easily conquered; yet we have this consolation with us, that the harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph.

What we obtain too cheap, we esteem too lightly: it is dearness only that gives every thing its value. Heaven knows how to put a proper price upon its goods; and it would be strange indeed if so celestial an article as FREEDOM should not be highly rated

Truer word have rarely been spoken. I use this as a part of my Sunday Benediction.

Thank you for posting.

What an odd coincidence!  Hadaclue and I were just talking about the first paragraph of this quote at lunch on the range at Slippery Rock.  Probably less than an hour after you posted.  Could it be that Liberty is spreading in pandemic proportions?

Let's hope so!

Of course, I can't say that I can talk about it with a totally dry set of eyes. Sometimes I have to take a sip of water as a distraction.
