Title: Bunnell, FL AAR June 20-21, 2020

What a great weekend for an Appleseed! The frost was certainly off the pumpkin as we reached heat indexes over 100 degrees. Despite the warm conditions the shooters and dedicated instructors persisted and the shooters showed consistent improvement throughout the two days.

I'd like to thank the Flagler Gun and Archery Club for its strong support of our program. It was nice to see the club president, Steve Canfield, bring a large group of new club members on their orientation tour to stop by and see our setup.

Russell worked hard trying to get his scope to zero properly. He's looking forward to the next shoot here at the Flagler Gun Club in October.

Paula was also having issues with her scope until we finally discovered what was happening to throw it off. She kept at it and ended up with a high score of 123 for her efforts.

Chris started out with his Springfield M1A and improved steadily. He tried out a Ruger 10-22 on Sunday and was rewarded with a cold water dousing when he attained Rifleman with a score of 210! This was Chris's first Appleseed. Congratulations Chris.

While we were proceeding through our usual marksmanship program an attempt was made to eradicate the Wuhan virus! 9mm4545 had brought targets consisting of twelve 1" diameter corona virus silhouettes. They were posted and became a course of fire for the group. Needless to say, the virus was destroyed! Rambogranny had the highest score with 10 out of twelve hits!

All the shooters learned what shooting hundreds of rounds can do to your elbows! I'm sure that there'll be a few pairs of padded "basketball sleeves" sold within the next few days!

Thanks to instructors FLawyer, Rambogranny, 9mm4545, TomM1thumb, Edree and Kawgirl (who came all the way from the other side of the state). You all did an excellent (as always) job of making the weekend a success.

Kawgirl treated us to an especially impressive rendition of the "Star Spangled Banner" with her fife to start our program each morning. Great job Kawgirl!

It was my pleasure to work with all of these great shooters and instructors and I wish you all sincere thanks for your efforts.

I was impressed by the grit and determination of our students who persisted despite the steamy conditions. Chris squeaked by with a 210 earning him the ritual cold dousing with chilly water from under the old north bridge (or a facsimile thereof). The bottle of icy water probably felt good as it diluted his sweat soaked shirt. In any case, congratulations to Rifleman Chris! When Paula saw her accuracy rapidly getting worse we found an "aha" in the form of a seriously loose scope mount. I love it when problems are easy to find and easy to fix. Just remember, your trigger finger is not meant for dancing! Russell, with your persistence and with more dry practice you will continue to improve and a Rifleman patch has been reserved in your name. The keyword on trigger control is smooth! T'was a fine weekend and I feel much gratitude to everyone who made it happen.

Sam Adams: "It does not take a majority to prevail, but rather an irate tireless minority, keen on setting brush fires of freedom in the minds of men."

OR AAR

Very special weekend for real patriots who contributed buckets of sweat for Lady Liberty. These inspiring students who persisted in spite of the heat were a privilege to watch as they progressed.
The multi dot covid target turned out to  be a real challenge especially if one has floaters in their eyes. ðŸ˜, 😆 ðŸ˜,
