No shoot at the Vets Shooting Center this week, range is a wet sloppy mess! With this in mind, I decided to shoot one of my CZ 452 UL bolt action .22 rimfires, with Nikon EFR 3x9 scope. Shooting on my own range.
I've recently decided to go back to shooting bolt actions on the AQT, so I have had a little practice lately. Now this CZ has a scope instead of the aperture sights I used to shoot with.
First AQT, I scored a 241, I felt pretty good about that, but did not like the ugly score on the 200, a 42. I shot it too fast, I felt I was about to lose time! The 100, was a 49, 300 a 50, 400 a 100.
Shot another AQT, this one was a 247! I can't complain about that!
Bolt action riflery on the AQT, is very doable and fun, give it a try!

I find that as long as you maintain your cheek-weld while cycling the bolt, time is not an issue with a bolt-action.
Cadence:
1. breathe out
2. trigger press
3. breath in and cycle the bolt at the same time
4. repeat!
I've been trying this as well, nowhere as good as you ofcourse. I also found that it is critical to find the optimum bolt movement that works for you. Too much pull to extract you'll end up pulling the rifle away, too much push on chambering the next round you'll push it to the left. Unfortunately my extractor isn't as good so sometimes it requires a harder pull to make sure that round clears before trying to chamber the next one. Maybe that is why the Olympic shooters all have the straight pull bolts?

I think bolt actions are very fun to run for Appleseed. Agree with everything below on how to maintain cadence and NPOA.

I first started shooting this same CZ with Brno Sport sights, ten years ago, always shot good AQT's with it. With the fading of my eye sight, I started using a scope, but also went to a semi auto as well, heck, its just easier! Just thought I would go back to the CZ 452 UL with scope this time, I like a challenge!
200 yard KD with a rimfire is a lot of fun, I've actually shot it quite a bit on my own range.
A couple of years ago, I did shoot a KD with a bolt action .223 Howa with detachable box magazine, shot some nice scores with it. The Howa is very slick operating, not a problem running this rifle!
My highest Appleseed score (235) was with a CZ455 American and a Vortex scope at Ramseur RBC. My challenge was working the bolt in the sitting position, and I used my support leg to give me a bit of leverage to operate the bolt and cock the rifle while keeping my cheek weld. My other challenge was obtaining sight alignment. My Tandy scope mounts and the resulting eye relief did not allow for a natural turkey neck (too close) which I met with a recoil pad. The little magazines for the CZ is another challenge. I put painters tape on the side of the rifle to give me a visible aid in inserting the magazines in rapid-fire stages.
I did the exact same painters tape on my Savage FVSR the same way to index the mag for AQTs. Worked great.
I'll try that painters tape thing too, looks like a good idea!
Shot again today, on the third AQT, shot a 250, huzzahh! Now to do this at an event, but I would be pleased to shoot a bolt action and score in the 240's at an event.

Shot my first Score with a mossberg 144 bolty. Currently working on mastering my "proper" bolt actions. I can get all the shots off with my Mosin Nagant on the rapids but I need a bit of work to turn all the noise into hits :)
