We had 18 instructors spend the weekend at Big Spring range (owned by Brownells) in Searsboro IA. Great time was had by all who attended. Specials thanks go to Cort aka Ames for setting it up and Tony aka Colycat for coming out to run it. We had some great scores shot. Those who didn't shoot rifleman learnd a lot as to why. 400 yards is a lot different than 25 meters on stage 4.
We had NE, NW, SW, Central IA and a lone shooter from Nebraska.

O0 Man, I wish I could have been there.
Good job, fellas. Thanks for stretching out... letting folks know we're more than a 22LR club. ^:)^

What a great event. If I'm not mistaken we had five guys qualify at full distance. Two were shooting AR's with optics, one with an AR and iron sights, one with an M1A with iron sights, and one with a .30 cal bolt action and optics.
Things I learned:
1) It is much more difficult to qualify at full distance, especially at the 400 yard line with iron sights.
2) You need to know your equipment and your bullet trajectory out to 400 yards along with the appropriate come-ups.
3) You need to remember to adjust your come-ups when you change distances.
4) The heat can really take it out of you - keep hydrated.
5) Persistence is essential.
6) The comradery and spirit among the Iowa instructors is fantastic!

This was a fantastic group to shoot with. Very safe, conscientious and professional. I very much appreciate the time and effort Colycat took to run our shoot and show us how KD is done properly. Big thanks also to Big Springs Shooting Complex for hosting us. The Brownell's organization is top shelf and they have a great range.
MO: Going to my first KD ever was a great experience. Very different than 25m. Highly recommend it and am thinking how we can do this on a regular basis. Look us up if you are ever in the area!
IXOYE: Nice pic. And I really like your takeaways. I concur. Here are some more:
- Going from 25m AQT to KD is NOT a small step up in difficulty level.
- +1 for quality time spent on .30 cal
- I swear those KD targets look smaller than the 25m AQT. (I did the math and they aren't, LOL)
- Dragging gear from one KD stage to the next all weekend long gives you plenty of time to reflect on your life choices.
