Title: John Calvin - the Forgotten Founding Father
Post by: CarrollMS on May 13, 2019, 07:30:04 PM
"In a nation that appears to be doing everything possible to expunge the remnants of its Christian foundation and heritage, it is no wonder that John Calvin has been forgotten as the virtual founder of our nation. John Adams, America's second President; Leopold von Ranke, a nineteenth century leading German historian; and George Bancroft, a Harvard educated historian known as the "father of American history", all testified to the significant influence Calvin had upon the foundation of America."

Comment: In rehearsing the three strikes and in reading Fishers "Paul Revere's Ride", one comes across the impromptu democratic councils the militia convened in their response to the events of 19 April (e.g. Concord Militia). This may be traced to the effect of the Congregational assemblies and means of local decision-making stemming from Calvin's doctrines in ecclesiastical and community governance. No less important was his requirement for magistrates to exercise righteous governance, else releasing the people from any obligation of obedience to tyrants. Further, his precepts may be reflected in the articles of our founding documents as the article strive to demonstrate.

"Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other." [John Adams]
