Friends of 6349,
So Scuzzy sends me great instructions on how to send out a newsletter-pm. I'm jazzed he trusts me to do it.
And low & behold there's something neat called variables! It's 5am and no coffee, but I gotta try this! So I find the variable for forum name and insert it into the greeting. It's gonna be cool.
Then I get a copy of the newsletter, addressed "Good morning, 6349". ??? !@#) :slap: :wb:
I knew exactly what I did. I used the variable for user number rather than name and it looks like I'm addressing inmates. **)
Sorry guys... I'll get better at this stuff soon.
best,
Rusty
Thank you for sharing and for the humor! I was not sure if this was another forum name change (I quickly tried to figure out if it spelled anything on a 1970s calculator display), if we were adding the history of cryptology to the COF ("you see the instructor is writing down his elevation and windage corrections on a piece of paper that he's wound around a stick; he will be able to decipher it back at the firing line just as long as he has a stick of the same diameter..."), or if I needed to quickly grab an "I am not a number; I am a free man!" meme from "The Prisoner". I decided it was not the latter because given our org chart you would not be 6349, but much closer to 1.
I sent a work e-mail at 3am today and am reluctant to re-read it for similar reasons.
Be seeing you,

This is why we can't have nice things. **)

We have been demoted to stormtoopers, does that mean we have to miss everything we shoot at too?
