Title: Propsed registration law
Post by: 2 clicks low on January 25, 2019, 11:45:36 AM
Illinois has a new proposed law that will ban any gun CAPABLE of holding a 10 round or more magazine and requiring registration of all firearms.
Please contact your legislators with your opinion in this matter.

I no longer live there so make a call on my behalf.

That Bill deals with 'assault weapons'.

Now this Bill is a hoot for a State with unlimited resources:

Here is the line taken from the bill:

a semiautomatic pistol or any semi-automatic
7              rifle that has a fixed magazine, that has the capacity
8              to accept more than 10 rounds of ammunition;

A Ruger 10/22 would be an assault rifle as it can take a 25 round magazine. A 1911 pistol can take a 15 round magazine. Most common 9mm pistols can take over 10 rounds. Even our beloved Garands would be out as they have a fixed magazine. How can you say that it deals with assault rifles when it makes almost every gun into an assault rifle/pistol?

As I read it, that portion refers to semiautomatic pistols or rifles with a "FIXED" magazine capable of holding more than 10 rounds.  All the examples you cited (10/22, 1911, etc.) use a detachable magazine and would not fall under this specific portion of the bill.

That said, it's a crap bill that bans guns solely on how they look.

No the comma separates different items one being a fixed magazine another being the ability to accept a magazine holding more than 10 rounds.

Introduced 1/23/2019, by Sen. Julie A. Morrison

I can't find anything substantive on this woman: Maiden name, parents, nationality...

Democrats are enjoying a rare Dem Trifecta in Illinois: Gov, and both houses of Congress. Madigan is being squeezed by FBI 'tapes' for some big vote.

Illinois is fiscally insolvent. SERS pensions are 33% funded.

On the basis of its solvency in five separate categories, Illinois ranks 50th among the US states for fiscal health. Illinois has between 0.55 and 1.13 times the cash needed to cover short-term obligations, well below the US average. Revenues only cover 92 percent of expenses, with a worsening net position of -$450 per capita. In the long run, Illinois's negative net asset ratio of 2.86 points to the use of debt and large unfunded obligations. Long-term liabilities are higher than the national average, at 330 percent of total assets, or $12,816 per capita. Total unfunded pension liabilities that are guaranteed to be paid are $445.79 billion, or 67 percent of state personal income. OPEB are $51.90 billion, or 8 percent of state personal income.

Socialism is their only Plan. For real.

Guns need to be confiscated to implement.

What makes you think that bows/arrows are not next on the list, followed by knives. Why do you need that assualt chefs knife? Why wouldn't a parring knife do?

The Keep Americans Safe Act

Anything with that syrupy of a name can't be good. Patriot Act, anybody?

February 13, 2019

Menendez To Introduce Bill Banning High-Capacity Magazines

WASHINGTON, D.C. - This week, U.S. Senator Tim Kaine joined Senator Bob Menendez to introduce the Keep Americans Safe Act, commonsense legislation to ban the importation, sale, manufacture, transfer, or possession of gun magazines that hold more than ten rounds of ammunition. These high-capacity magazines are designed for shooting en masse and have been used in some of the country's deadliest mass shootings. This week marks the anniversary of the mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida.

"Commonsense gun reform can prevent families' worst nightmares from becoming reality," Kaine said. "In this new Congress, I hope my colleagues join me in taking action to ensure high-capacity magazines do not enter our schools, offices, places of worship, and concert halls."

The Keep Americans Safe Act includes the following provisions:

    Provides limited exceptions for devices possessed before enactment, for certain current and former law enforcement personnel, for certain Atomic Energy personnel and purpose, for tubular devices that can only accept .22 rimfire ammunition, and for certain authorized testing or experimentation;

    Modifies the high-capacity definition to prevent coupled or joined magazines;

    Authorizes buyback programs for high-capacity magazines using Byrne JAG grants;
[/b]
    Requires devices manufactured after enactment to have conspicuous serial numbers and date of manufacture to help law enforcement identify restricted magazines;
    Harmonizes forfeiture provisions for magazines with current law; currently FBI and ATF can seize and destroy certain firearms but not high capacity magazines.

Yes, they try these Bills all the time, eventually one will pass [nuclear option]. They have a fund already in place for the buyback.
