Title: Ten straight AQT's in practice.
Post by: Quinncannon on January 06, 2019, 02:54:24 PM
Here's some practice targets I have shot lately, scores from a high of 249 to a low of 244. I'll take it! Looking forward to our next shoot!
I'm fortunate to have my own range and can shoot when I please!

Well, tried posting pics, not working!

Its good to see instructors practice regularly.

My range is 25 miles down the road, and getting there once a week is pretty good.

Your marksmanship is good, and congratulations are in order.

That's some darn fine shootin' !
Many people, myself included, hit a wall. This is also know as the point of diminishing returns. Eye fatigue, that sort of thing. Do you experience this? If so, when... and how do you deal with it? I find kneeling / sitting to be uncomfortable after about two rounds of doing it and I would welcome suggestions about how to combat the general fatigue.

Sir, I have hit a wall too, I've only scored 250 twice, once in practice and once at an Appleseed. I do score a few 248's and 249's, but the average seems to be about 246. Those few points to 250 seem to be a lot farther away than a mere few points! LOL

I used to be an irons sight shooter only, but because of diminishing eyesight, I have had to start using scoped rifles, started this in earnest in 2016. Since then, eye strain is not so bad, but I do get it at times! I try to stay hydrated and use eye drops when needed.

I have had to modify my sitting position, I can't sit cross legged anymore, so I now have my legs and feet in a somewhat bowlegged position ( ) no strain on my knees. I stretch over, place my elbows on the inside of my knees and I'm good to go, very stable! I average 48-50 on this stage, always have plenty of time. I wish I had done it this way long time ago!

I have found that I can over practice, I don't usually shoot more than two on a given day. Some days, I only shoot one of the particular stages. Standing is my weakest, can be frustrating, but if I get the proper NPOA, breathing and trigger control, many times I will score a 50, but average about 48. I don't use the sling on standing. I just don't like it for that.

Hope this helps, shooting some KD tomorrow on an all steel range! Thanks for your kind words!

Thanks for the advice. I shot my Distinguished last year, however, it's clear I have a lot more practice in my future before I achieve that "250" patch!

You're welcome, I'm glad to help what little I can. What changed a lot for me was retiring in January 2017, the amount of shooting I do went up to a new level. I was already an avid shooter, but the amount of range sessions for the reduced course and KD went up exponentially. Good practice and lots of ammo made a big difference. Living on my own range helps too.

Up to fifteen in a row now, all over a 244.
