Title: AAR Ladyseed - BRGC, Bowie, MD 8-9 SEPT 2018
Post by: Cold Warrior on September 15, 2018, 02:19:43 PM
Saturday dawned a grey and threatening overcast, and a little warm and humid.  A hurricane threatened a few days off in the Atlantic... but that did not deter several great American lady shooters from coming out and showing up on the line at the Berwyn Rod & Gun Club (BRGC), in Bowie, MD for a Ladyseed (ladies-only) Project Appleseed Rifle Marksmanship Clinic, in Bowie, MD.

After kicking off with introductions and the safety brief, we completed our first Redcoat.  And what an impressive start!  After some Prone Steady Hold-factor training, we then moved on to putting sighters on the Squares target... we quickly saw great progress.   :snipersmi
After some history at lunch, we got back to marksmanship training - as the day progressed, the weather went downhill, but it was apparent that the groups had improved significantly.  All the shooters maintained a fabulous attitude, and huge improvements were made.

When Sunday morning came, persistent rain, cooler temps, and wind was the scene... but still a great weekend to be at the (covered) range!  After some more coaching, including mag-change drills, hold-the-trigger-back,  and NPOA (carding the sights) drills, we got down to some Appleseed Qualification Tests (AQT).  Paula P (The P was for "Proficient") put up a 214 and a 224. Great job! After wrapping up the history, and a final Redcoat target, the shooters heard about some Dangerous Old Men and Dangerous Dames that showed up to make a difference on April 19th, 1775, and throughout our war for independence.  A Rifleman patch was handed out to Paula, and Cynthia F was voted the Shoot Boss's hero as the most persistent.  HUGE progress was made and everybody had fun, too!  Paula also verbalized that she really appreciated the slower pace, the extra drills, and the caring attention from our instructors, working with everyone personally.
One of the ladies said she felt very safe (referring to how the line is run at Appleseed).

We hope we see all the ladies back on the line at some point... A RIFLE(WO)MAN PERSISTS!

Huzzah!

Thank you very much to our host range, BRGC in Bowie, MD.

And last but not least, many thanks to my fellow instructors MikeCee, Aninha, and PB4Y1, whose positive attitudes and professional demeanor made this a safe and successful shoot.
