Title: Iowa State Championship M1 Garand Match August 18
Post by: Yankeedutch on August 06, 2018, 11:04:04 PM
The M1 Garand Match is held at Van Meter (just west of Des Moines on I80).
This is a really great way to put those Appleseed skills to the test.  All shooting is done at 200 yards.
There are some M1s available.  The IASRPA has some LC M2 (30-06) with enblocs for sale.
You may shoot your M1A or AR.
There are many similarities and a few differences between CMP and Appleseed rules.
1. Slow fire standing and prone are single loaded (one minute per shot)
2. Rapid fire procedures are a little different but allow a generous 70 sec sitting and 80 seconds prone.
3. Sling is attached to rifle during offhand, but not used.
4. Line commands are also somewhat different.
5. This is shot in 3 relays.  Either you are shooting, scoring or pulling targets.  Van Meter has working rifle pits.

The match is run by a former Appleseeder.  There are great door prizes as well.
See the match bulletin for further details:

We will go over pit procedures, line commands, M1 loading and operation etc. before the match.

Also see this video from some of the top service rifle shooters in the country shooting at Van Meter:

The very beginning shows guys pulling targets.  Don't worry, we ordered sunshine for this match.

I'm sorry I missed this!  I hope there's another one next year and I promise to pay better attention.
