it's time for a weekend off. As instructors we give a lot of time to the program. It's time we take a weekend to ourselves. I checked the Florida schedeule and found ONE weekend this year that has no event scheduled, October 27th and 28th.
This October 27th at the Gwin Farm in Ocala, Fl. we will be holding an event just for instructors. An event just for instructors to spend some time together around a fire and on a line. No students, no instructing, just appleseeders.
The date is set. PM me if you want to go.
^:)^
Is this a family affair? Is RV parking Friday/Saturday night a possibility?
i know there has been camping at past events at the lovely Gwinn farm. You just gotta watch out for the Rainbow people. ^-^
The weather should be great for camping at the end of October! Count me in! Are we talking Saturday only, or all weekend?
I would recommend we keep this as a non-Appleseeds event, accepting all the liabilities therein. The Gwinn's are some of the nicest folk I have ever met and they are opening their home to us.
ok. it's been a while since I've been on the forum.
To confirm, the event is on. We will all be camping. If you have a camper, there is space to park it.
We have just a few weeks left untill the event and I need a head count.
We are going to, at the suggestion of PHenry, keep this an unofficial event. There will be no place to sign up officially, which means you need to let me know if you plan to attend.
I have it on my calendar sir. :---
Bad news is it looks as if I have repaired my fav rifle. ^-^
Oh, No, Ein Louden boomer!!!!
PHenry got his rifle fixed.
Oh joy
You can shoot between Bruce and Big Chris.
Bruce? Are 9mm4545 and Rambo Granny back?
We are still in Canada but are on the way back to FL. Not sure if we can make this one yet.
jest stake yer mats down gentlemen - you'll be fine. :---
and for those that do not know the farm, this will be a full distance, no AQT event. There will be steels. There will be competition. There may be some wagering and prizes to be had.

Second on the question from TheMenace - Family affair? We'll be in the RV, of course.
Teardrop Trailer or Hammock ?
Also Food ? Out to dinner or are Smoak and I cooking ? I don't mind either way just thinking logistics.
this is a remote location. no hook up for campers, no running water. no place nearby for food. prepare to be self sustaining for the weekend. We will do some kind of group meal saturday night
marginal hotel about 20 minutes away at interstate. Marginal Denny's (I think) on way to range from hotel for thems not wiling to rough it. ^-^
The farm is utterly beautiful place - just be on look out for "rainbow warriors" and keep Sly223 away from them.
Is the Quinn farm where I went to My First Appleseed?
if your first event was in the ocala national forest, then yes
Smoak, Your comment, Made Me look back, funny I found copies of My Tickets for My First event, that state Silver Springs Florida, Hosted at the Quin Farm. so I guess I have been there.
Nice People nice Place
Smoak, Whats our head count looking like ?
Fittin to reserve the crappy hotel at highway. Anyone care to share - let me know.
PH
head count seems low. not a lot of folks have responded.
if you intend to come i need to know in the next few days
I will be there , I was planning on camping, Trey I have extra tents if you would like to use one.
CG,
Being a man, I of course own a tent. Being old and spoiled, I of course require a hot shower every day.
thanks just the same,
PH
Roy (BilloRights) and I arrive Friday afternoon. Never been there . Need directions. Rough timeline would be nice.
We got a map?
After speaking with Smoak today. He will send out directions and address soon. He and I will bring cooking gear. Plan on a 2 pot dinner Saturday night maybe white chicken chili and beef stew.
Plus grilled chicken and veggie for thems on a diet.
For Sunday lunch I have a huge amount of sloppy joe already made and frozen . I will bring that if someone wants to grab buns .
Saturday Dinner,
I am going to make 2 one pot meals, Italian chicken stew and Beef stroganoff,
Sunday lunch Sloppy joes.
I have the meat and veggies for these already picked up.
If someone wants to bring pie cookies chips (things we should not eat) etc , please do.
Smoak is going to bring the manhole cover of doom ^:)^ , so we will have a feast for breakfast.

Wow , That was a blast. We will have to do this way more often.
If you were not there you missed it .
Big Thank you to Smoak for setting this up.
Without a doubt this was the best Appleseed event ever! Yes, thanks is due to Smoak and his friends, the Gwins. Also kudos to Cable__guy for outstanding dinner. Huzzah!
Thank you Glen for setting this up. Saturday was a blast. I will make sure I will never make a promise to anywhere else when we do this again. I find it hard to believe that some of the cadre missed this event to go "golfing".
Todd, mi fren', fantastic dinner Sir.
To the rest of the cadre, if you missed this you missed a lot.........
Shakin' off the dust...
Life has a way of distracting us from important things. I am thankful that I got out and connected with some of the best people I've ever known.
Glen, thanks for the gift I didn't know I needed.
Even though I said, "I can do that challenge in 2 cartridges", the prize goes to Roy who confirmed it with 2 in a row (standing, iron sights, no-sling, 2 rounds on the headshot). In my defense I was still sighting in...I guess that is excuse #51 in the Appleseed book of excuses (which is completely blank).
Kudos to Jean who not only smacked the 100 and 200 with a .22lr (and the 75 yard silhouette with her pistol) but had another first of using Joe's 6.5 Creedmoor laser to smack the 400 first round. Almost cheating!

ps. Thanks Todd...as an older man your sloppy joes and beef stroganoff allowed me to get home and collapse into bed by 8:30...
I second the "more often" assertion. Man, is that place a little slice of Heaven. Even for thems that do not shoot it would be a blast. Hadn't camped in a tent in more years than I can recall. The Gwinn's are so generous to share their bounty with us. Would love to do something in return. Smoak - see if we can arrange a work day when Justin has a project?
Cable_Guy and TheMenace made us all comfortable as always - bless you both. Great people, great food, great time.
To all the folks who showed up, thanks for making the trip. One of the things that drew me into appleseed was the people. Events like this do wonders for the spirit. I still believe you meet the best people at appleseed.
To you folks that skipped it, I'm sorry you missed it. Every now and then, we need to rekindle those bonds and just get away from the hustle of life. We'll do this again, I expect more of you to show up.
