Title: Texas and Southern New Mexico have SEVERAL new Orange Hats!
Post by: Mrs. Smith on March 08, 2018, 07:12:56 PM
Well, everyone, our February 24-25 event was a FRUITFUL one, to be sure!  We had only 10 shooters, due largely to the fact that the facility had a number of its lanes out of order (that they SWEAR will be fixed by our April event!).  But out of that group, we christened FOUR new Riflemen. Three of those Riflemen took the 7th step and accepted Orange hats.  Due to our unique geographic situation, we have both Texas and New Mexico folks in our cadre.

mbonsell, from Alpine, TX, and wife of A Bonsell who took the 7th step back in October, scored a SMOKING 232 on her first AQT of the weekend

borracho, from Hatch, NM, earned his patch with a bolt gun, and

Dude1987 from Las Cruces, NM who shot his rifleman's score with the added difficulty of less stable shooting positions due to an unusual medical condition that doesn't allow him to bend his back in any way. Jerry Hall had the added pleasure of finally getting to annoint somebody in "Concord River water," thanks to this fella.

Also joining us from El Paso, TX is a young man who accepted his orange hat back in October, but didn't get around to completing his IIT0 stuff and getting a screen name until just before the February event; 13 year old juan.carlos.franco.  He came to this event with props (literally) to tell stories of the young men who stood with their captains in the thick of battle armed only with drumsticks, and he called the line like a PRO.  I expect we'll be seeing great things from this young-un.

Son of a gun!! That was one heck of a shoot.

Sounds like a good crowd. Hardcore shooters. And a young story teller too! Thanks y'all.

And borracho? Cool - I remember that word from the old hood.

Congratulations on your successful shoot!

Juan Carlos will be a wonderful addition to Appleseed.  Great job taking the initiative to learn more about our Revolutionary War history and discovering tools to bring more of their stories to life.

Tumbleweed and I are looking forward to scheduling a "vacation" to attend an El Paso event.  We both hope to have the pleasure of meeting this outstanding young man.

DrRichP -
Debbie is going for her red hat this weekend; I don't expect there to be any issues (Steck is SB'ing the shoot, but I've worked frequently with Debbie over the past several months).

Debbie has clearly worked hard to be an effective red hat.  She did well at the IBC last weekend, and was very self-motivated to identify and work on any rough spots.

I think she'll be just find this weekend  ;)
