What a great event. Seven ambitious and hard-working individuals came out into the early fall for a weekend of great weather and perfect conditions, to share instruction and education with like-minded folks. Many thanks to Orwell Gun Club for donating your facility for the entire weekend.
We started Saturday morning by taking on the Redcoat. Our opening salvo showed that there were probably some "good learning opportunities" on the horizon.
After the Redcoat, we shared some basic information on using the GI sling and steady-hold factors and NPOA...
Continuing the day, we learned about seated and standing as well, and everyone took the opportunity to practice what they had learned...
We spent time adjusting sights, learning about and shooting a practice AQT and sharing history rounded out the day. By evening, we cleared the first Redcoat!
We started Sunday morning reinforcing a few basics with the Ball and Dummy drill...
Before long, it was time to accept the challenge of the AQT...
Many showed great form in both seated and prone as well...
By the end of the day, we had three Riflemen...
During the afternoon, we had a little competition, breaking into two teams. Each team had 3-4 shooters, each with 5 rounds. Scoring was points-based, with the total score divided by the number of shooters on the team. The winning team scored an average of 24.5 points per shooter, out of a possible 25. I'd say that's not too bad, considering that some were barely on paper at the start of the weekend.
The prize was the often coveted, but rarely seen, Appleseed sticker, suitable for lunchbox, ammo box, or other types of boxes...
Knowing that our future lies with our youth, no event should close without recognizing those who have made it through the entire event...
The award of a "Tactical Trigger Training Device" went to our most improved shooter, who went from hardly hitting paper to some amazing groups...
Thanks to everyone who came out, thanks to our team of instructors, and thanks to Orwell Gun Club, for hosting our event.
Looks like a great shoot. I'm sorry I had to work all weekend. :(
A great big thank you to all that have made the 2nd AS at Owell a success. This was a great group of shooters that came out to partake of the heritage and history of our nation and to learn and improve upon their marksmanship. Their were some great big paychecks for the instructor crew at this event!
We have had some great comments from the older members of the club. They seem to be really impressed with AS and from the response that I am getting very supportive.
Great job team. Looks like everyone improved and three Riflemen from the group with a cleared Red Coat is impressive. TexasT, great pics.
Thanks to the club, we look forward to coming back next year.
