Title: Anyone shoot NRA smallbore silhouette?
Post by: RaggedHole on August 06, 2017, 01:55:24 AM
I am interested in shooting NRA Smallbore Silhouette in the next month or two and was wondering if there are any clubs or matches y'all might know about? I am up in Plano [N Dallas] but up for a drive. [Mostly just looking to shoot rifle as opposed to pistol]

So far I found a few spots:

http://www.hotsa.org
http://www.terrellriflepistolclub.org
http://www.haltomcityrpc.org/class_index.cfm <<<[Restricted website but word of mouth says yes]
http://www.ctrpclub.org/programs/cowboy_smallbore_silhouette <<< [Trying to find out if they have it, didn't see it on this years calendar]

Thanks for all the help!

Howdy RaggedHole,
Jerry Hall here in El Paso, TX..., yes 700 miles away!
I shoot with the Tejas Silhouette Shooters 2 or 3 times a month; https://www.tejassilhouetteshooters.org/ .
THe standard schedule is as follows;
Monthly Sunday Match Sequence:

• 1st Sunday: Small-bore .22lr (Hunter/Standard); & Cowboy (CLA) high power 30-30
• 2nd Sunday: Cowboy (CLA) small-bore .22lr; & Cowboy (CLA) pistol-caliber (.22WMR and up)
• 3rd Sunday: Bench rest .22lr; & Small-bore .22lr (Hunter/Standard--60 targets total)
• 4th Sunday: High power (Hunter/Standard); & Small-bore .22lr (Hunter/Standard)
• 5th Sunday (January, April, July, October): Fun match with High power rifle (Hunter/Standard/AR-10)

I would suggest that you use your favorite search engine and query the local gun stores for silhouette competitions/Ranges. :wb:

Happy Trails,
Jerry

Yep, thats what I have been doing. The problem with local and club level matches, especially when it comes to smallbore games, is that they tend to not be heavily advertised or come across in google searches. They are mostly stuck in small sections on dated websites w/o a lot of info. I have probably visited 50-75 range websites within 3-4 hours of DFW and run across a small handful of ranged that run specifically run NRA Smallbore Silhouette or CMP Rimfire Sporter.

I have the ones I listed and think they are a good place to start but figure it never hurts to keep asking around.
