Title: AAR Marion Ohio July 22&23, 2017
Post by: Corvette on July 23, 2017, 09:42:37 PM
What a pleasure to be back at Meeker Sportsman Center near Marion, Ohio. While not a big shoot, it was certainly very special.

My thanks to Chewie, Mike and Vern for braving the weather on Saturday and for their commitment on Sunday to stick it out.

The weekend was a rainy, humid and unpredictable two days.  Between local county fairs and the bad weather forcast, we were a happy Band of Brothers of four on Saturday morning. As all were verteran Appleseeders and given that the range at Meeker goes to 400 yds, we changed the standard course of fire and ad-lib'd the weekend.

After the welcome and safety brief and the morning Red Coat, we did what would normally be the Sunday morning review of the points of instruction.  This allowed us to move quickly to zero confirmations and directly to the AQT.

By lunch, we had already completed an AQT and Chewie re-qualified with what would be the best score of the weekend, a 236. After lunch, we continued with a series of AQTs.  Chewie continued to post Rifleman scores of 224, 228 and 235.

His nephew Mike was setting the stage for what would be a solid weekend of shooting.  He started with a solid 194 and continued to pound on the Rifleman door with a 200, a 202 and a 208.  But, Saturday came to a close before he could qualify as a Rifleman.

As all attendees were returning Appleseeders, we also changed the Saturday heritage to discuss in more detail the details of Paul Revere's life both before and after April 19, 1775 instead of the standard Three Strikes.  As everyone shooting was also staying at the Range Saturday night, we also orchestrated a binge viewing of the entire History Channel presentation of "Founding Brothers" while we prepared dinner and cleaned rifles from Saturday.

On Sunday, we did the morning Red Coat and an NPOA drill.  This was followed by our first AQT.  I am pleased to announce that one of RWVA's longest serving Blue Hats, ChevyShooter finally after seven year's of trying, shot Rifleman with a 213.  I have worked numerous shoots with ChevyShooter and I can not say how pleased I am that he FINALLY shot his Rifleman score.

Mike followed with his own 213 on the next AQT.  Also, it is my pleasure to also share that Chevy Shooter upgraded to an Orange hat after shooting his score.  By Noon, we were shifting to working at full distance with our center fire rifles.  The remainder of the day was spent zeroing rifles at 25 meters and then confirming our far zeros and working on comeups to 300 yds.

The weekend ended mid-afternoon Sunday as shoulders were sore and folks had commitments.  Fare wells were exchanged and special Appleseed came to an end.

My thanks to Vern, Mike and Chewie for making this weekend a memory I will keep for quite a while.

Well done, Vern!!!  O0

I believe that everyone in the group is celebrating along with you. So glad that you finally reached your goal. I know that it means a lot to you.

Congrats on accepting a new color. That old blue thing was needing an upgrade to a shiny new shade of orange.

Keep up the great work, see you down the trail.   :snipersmi
