Title: AAR: Byers, CO June 17-18, 2017

Colorado Rifle Club in the eastern plains of Colorado hosted the two-day shoot on June 17th and 18th, 2017. Fourteen shooters were on the line which included eight returning Appleseeders, four amazing Young Patriots from ages 10 to 16, and a proud member of the US Air Force Reserve. We had four pairs of fathers and their children on this wonderful Father's Day Weekend.

Shooters were treated to the traditional Byers, Colorado summer weather on Saturday with high temperatures and strong winds in the afternoon. Sunday was in the high 80's but the wind cooperated and provided great shooting weather which showed in the shooters improved scores on the AQTs.

Shooters were able to shoot an AQT on Saturday afternoon, though with wind speeds of 22 mph gusting up to 28 mph, most shooters were happy if their target stayed attached to the target line! Sunday's weather was much more cooperative with winds of only 10 mph and only a few errant targets during the three AQTs shot. Scores continued to creep up for most with a few shooters (including some of our youngest shooters) bordering on the coveted Rifleman score. One shooter managed a score of 206 with his scope cross hairs moving to 90 degrees out of alignment!  At the end of the day Sunday, one of our Young Patriots, came within one shot of clearing the final Red Coat target.

With the expertise of Engineer Shooting, shooters were treated to the truest history of the events surrounding April 19, 1775, in addition to unique and challenging drills. Trigger reset, magazine change, carding the sights, and NPOA drills helped reinforce the marksmanship instruction. IITs Scott, Max, and Bub maintained the safety of the shoot and worked with shooters one-on-one throughout the weekend.
It was a great honor to receive my Green Hat at this event in such esteemed company and among such amazing shooters including the enthusiastic Megan, Jonah, Bryson, and Lauren.
