Good to be back to the Bozrah rod and Gun club for a non summertime event. The weather was more like spring for the first day, but winter kicked in on Sunday. More on that later.
Saturday started overcast, temps in the 60's as had been for the past several days. The attendees consisted of 14 shooters including 6 juniors. The day ran well overall, everyone took to the instruction at the standard drink-from-a-firehose-pace. Improvements were seen after the bulk of instruction was demonstrated and the day was finished with an AQT and the final redcoat.
Sunday was another story. Temps had dropped overnight into the 30's and wind had picked up gusting to 30 mph at times. Early on we had to deal with air born mats, tarps and target line. When it was finally under control and the day ran well with more personal instruction to those shooters who needed it. More than a fair share of equipment malfunctions started to plague some folks, some rifles were swapped out to keep things going.
By early afternoon we had our fist Rifleman, John, with a sizzling 236 score. John had been to other events and when asked what put it together for himself, his reply was "getting the NPOA's down." Good to see you got it down John!
Our second Rifleman was Mason, one of our jr shooters, with a 214. His take on it was the sling really made the difference for him.
By the time late afternoon fell upon us it was getting downright cold with wind chill temps in the 'teens. Not all was lost however as one more Rifleman was to be had. Patrick, the example of persistence, with a score of 218, backing it up with a 211. Having suffered malfunction issues, cross fires and his rifle falling apart(!), he wound up getting it done. Great job Patrick!
Several other shooters got in some respectable scores with one stage that kept them out of contention. Tal with a 202, Matt 187, Craig 182 and Ty with a 170.
Our event was a little more special due to the number of father-son groups there and 40% of the line being juniors. Campbell, Mason, Ty, Marc, Kyle and Jeff all hung tough when things got less than ideal and never complained. Great job gentlemen!
The Bozrah R&G club did there best with having the range ready for the shoot, providing some good hot food both days and going the distance to make sure the event was a success. A big thanks goes out to them, we look forward to their hosting shoots in the future.
The attendees were a great bunch to work with, few complaints and everyone getting better from the instruction. It makes the instructor's life a little easier when we have a crew with a teachable attitude. Everyone, job well done.
The instructor crew of Scout74, Su:) and Huysman were all newer IIT's, did well, taught their skills and learned throughout the weekend. Great crew to have available.
A Rifleman persists.
Great event and facilities. Thank you to BRGC for hosting and to Tom for making it happen! It was great to see several pairs of father and sons competing on the line! Congrats to Patrick, Mason and John on earning their Rifleman scores!
