Title: Tuscaloosa, AL - October 8-9, 2016
Post by: EddieB on October 14, 2016, 12:10:01 AM
Our third Appleseed event at the Tuscaloosa Shooting Sports Club was a success!  Not only did the event sell out, but we were treated to perfect weather.  Twelve shooters decided to get off the couch and spend the weekend immersed in marksmanship and heritage.  We started off the event with the telling of the events of April 19, 1775 on Lexington Green.  Then after learning the safety rules, rifles were brought to the line and we established a baseline using the Redcoat targets!  Instruction and drills followed, all aimed at building and mastering the skills necessary for the Appleseed Qualification Test.  We heard about the fight at the North Bridge in Concord, and later the fight at Merriam's Corner that started it all.  We ended the day with another Redcoat target where the scores were much improved.  Maybe the day's instruction helped?

Sunday morning we quickly got back into the groove.  After a brief review that had plenty of shooter participation, we shot several sighter squares and did a few more drills.  How did you like Ball and Dummy?  We shot our first AQT of the day and then took a break for lunch.  Several stories of Dangerous Old Men (and Women) were shared, then we had a preview of the material covered at Appleseed Known Distance events.

The AQT grind took off after lunch.  Tommy was our first Rifleman, later followed by James.  Both Riflemen shot 215 on the AQT!  Huzzah!  ^:)^ Several other shooters were knocking at the door.  Nathan, you were so close!  Practice at home and you'll get that patch at your next Appleseed.

Thanks to Barry for his continued generosity in hosting our event at his range.

Tell your family and friends what you learned about our nation's beginning and the people who sacrificed to give us the Liberty we have today.  Please come back to Appleseed, and don't forget to bring a friend!

Kennebago was well received by the Shooters.

Sounds like a great event. Perfect weather, shooters with a "Learnable attitude" who came to excel. Congrats to our new riflemen.   O0
